I don't wear heels, i find them utterly uncomfortable. I feel I look silly wearing heels, like im trying too hard to be something I am not (taller, hehehehe) those realy thin ones are really scary... if you think about it, it makes women look rather vulnerable. the way a women has to walk on them, almost like walking on the air,it makes me feel like their purpose is to actually create that illusion of vulnerability. Culturally, women are perceived as defenceless creatures, weak and vulnerable too. the image of high heels is highly feminine, i'm sure there's some sort of connection to the culturalisation of gender identities.
i remember coming across this book studying the cultural psychology behind high heels and other mobility modifying practices...in basically all of them, the ultimate goal was to create a woman who can't move without assistance...
you reminded me of an article i read about this japanese practice called feet binding, which consists of wearing a special sort of shoes that are really small, so the feet would become a different shape that geishas aspired to get in order to sexually satisfy their male clients with their feet (sort of a foot fetish taken to the extreme) and making them unable to walk without help.
I find it insanley interesting that they are comfy to me and I walk quite well in them. I'm tall and uhm not light either so it's weird. I think it's because I have really high arches and they don't cramp up in heels like they do in other shoes. I've had this problem with my arches cramping up my whole life and heels really aliviates that and I have better posture when I wear them and incredibly sloppy posture when I don't.
