You have to be a member to be allowed an avatar. At the moment you're only a guest. (Being a member also allows you to send PMs, and to access the chat room).

You have to have been here a while, and have made a certain number of posts (I think it's 20) ... so you're well on your way. Keep posting, and you'll be promoted soon enough.

Even as a member, though, you're only allowed to choose from a standard (but pretty extensive) list of avatars. If you want to use your own photo, you're going to have to pay to be a supporter.
