I was out for a gig with some friends the other day, and the partner (who I hadn't met before) of this guy gave me her business card, and asked me for mine. Well I don't have a business card so I made a joke out of it, saying I'm just a pleb. It seemed a bit odd to me, but I've just checked her website and she's an artist so I suppose she has to promote herself at every opportunity. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone uses business cards and if you hand them out like confetti to everyone you meet, or only in business situations? And is your card as impressive as these? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1nSwpxRuJo"]American Psycho - Business Card Scene
I only carry business cards in my briefcase and that tends to be only when I am working or leaving the office for business. I have never handed a card to a lay person who is not in my field or it was not business oriented. I have though accepted cards from those who were seeking employment. They usually follow up with a CV and the card is a reminder for me to check if they have.
I have business cards from my employer. Only time I hand them out is if someone finds out what I do and wants some work done, usually people I meet at bars once we get to talking.
i have business cards, but i only hand them out if someone asks for one, which isn't terribly common. they're outdated anyway; they still show my old position.
Hello, I have a large pile of business cards on my desk. I mostly use them to scratch the dirt out of my laptop keyboard or from the small opening around the display. Works like a charm . Oh, and very rarely I use them to get a date . Draw a coffee mug or an ice-cream cone and a question mark on them and you are set. Regards Gyro
When I was working our library made business cards for the staff. I suppose we were supposed to use them for "networking". I think the box had 500 cards in it. About six months after they made the cards our university changed all our email addresses, so the cards were all inaccurate. If we used the cards we had to change the address on each one. When I retired two years ago I think I still had 495 cards in the box to throw out. What a waste. On the other hand I do sometimes pick up cards at doctor's offices so I have their phone numbers in my wallet if needed. I also have some cards from some local or distant shops I go to.
Hmm. Business cards is a complex thing. For some things, I don't use them. Then for other things, I have different cards for different people. For instance, some will get a main tel, others might get one mobile tel, or another mobile tel (ie an active one, or one I rarely answer). (Makes me feel like an Ecstacy dealer with the real pills in 1 pocket and the duds in another.. ) I think the whole business card thing is fading a bit, in some quarters. Very often a website or email is replacing it all. The watermark thing doesn't cost much these days. And it does instantly remind people of a pyschonut who murders women... :-/ Maybe hologram bus cards are the modern day equivalent, as has been gold leaf and embossing. Perhaps that all shouts a bit too loudly tho? I was trying to imagine the perfect business card a while back. Unique without being gimmicky...Its hard. I was thinking of ordering some free business cards from vistaprint just to have on me if I wanted to give my contact info to someone. Even if I don't ever give one out, they make good filter paper for joints.
weed dealers should give out cards that double as grinders... like the cheese grater one on that site.
i just remembered i did have some a long time ago i used to place them on cars when id see a car that i knew i had parts for
