This is the wrong way to convince people that pits aren't just vicious killers...

 

Whether it's normal dog behavior or not (which it isn't, since our pit hasn't killed anything) you will still be hurting when it kills someone's pet or child and they sue you.

can you explain to me how you can assume human aggression will occur as a result of a prey drive? if he did show human aggression, other than defense, I would have him put down.

We don't know if she would really attack children or not, we don't give her an opportunity. We know she barks at them and looks aggressive, so as a result she will no longer ever come in contact with children, it is not a risk we are willing to take. She has had contact with cats and other pets and she barks, but does not attack. Therein lies the difference.

There are cats all over the place by our house as well as chickens and ducks and she leaves them alone.

If I saw her attacking something I would try to stop it, not just watch and cheer her on, which is apparently how you react to your dog.

If I was older and he wasn't married, I also think NotDeadYet and I would be a good couple. He might not agree, but whatever

 

that's the problem, you should have socialized that dog around small children as a pup. you still can, but it would have to be done right, and it sounds like it is something neither of you are comfortable with.. so I hope that dog never goes after a child and you have no idea how to react.

I tried socializing my dog with cats, but the one female calico was such a nasty creature that tormented him to the point he now preys on them. oh well. and I don't cheer anything on, I actually feel bad watching a defenseless animal die.

but like I said, after trying to HELP a cat and getting sliced to the point of needing stitches, they can now fend for themselves. I know my dog won't turn and bite me, but cats are too fucking stupid to realize someone is trying to help them. they're also too stupid to stay out of a backyard occupied by two large dogs.
