What they're trying to tell you (by laughing at you) is that you need to understand how little of a difference this makes. Think about it. How much time are you going to be spending out in everyday life with your girlfriend/wife? Probably a good 85%+. Compare this to how much you're going to be spending in bed with them.

They're going to love you for the time you spend out in the world. For the times you make them laugh. The times you make them smile. And even the times that you make them cry.
