Unusual behavior for a cat. I have seen a cat attack a dog much bigger than itself when she had kittens in the house and a friend called with his dog. I had to literally rip the cat off the dog. He'd given up, and she would have killed him. Maybe this pussy defending the kid is a kind of extension of that kind of behavior.
Dog attacks like that is why I chased the teenagers, their doberman, and their pit off my property with a golf club.

I so recall having to break up a fight when our cat jumped on our pit-bird-dog and was kicking the dog's but. I got a baseball bat between them and the cat ran under the bed. My hubby started yelling for me to catch the dog before it stuck it's head under the bed. He said that's a cat trick. They get the dog to stick their face under and then they latch onto it.
Smart cats aim right for the dog's nose. The most sensitive part! It was hard to see the initial attack, when the cat leap at the dog. Couldn't see where one paw landed. It sure got the pitbull to unclench its teeth, which is hard to do! Might've been somewhere on its face. Imagine the pain a dog experiences after five sharp daggers make mince of his nose...
