But if you say that, and only that, you deserve what is coming to you unless you can justify yourself. No sir, that is freedom of speech with all due respect and is NOT any kind of attack. As I said, every single one of us in this thread has done shit compared to Hawking. It is meant as "all due respect" to Hawking. So it stinks to see the thread sullied by "he is over rated". To say that without reason is insanely unbelievable. Consider the source and such a reply is justified. Lets not get out of line, some replies are justified.

But that is how I felt and I suppose everything is fine and ended now.

I totally believe in a non flame RT, but I do think if folks say something dumb (not even this instance) they should be called out for it. Lets not go overboard with this protecting everyone stuff, otherwise a lot of naive crap will be said. Still need to put folks in their place from time to time.

Sure, I'll buy that. People should always be held accountable for stupidity. But you attacked a person for an opinion, you didn't attack a stupid comment.

Simply saying "he's overrated" without offering anything to back the conclusion up seems calculated to provoke a disproportionate response which you furnished. There was nothing to rectify... as has been pointed out- you attacked the author of the post instead of challenging what he posted.
