Hephatrump has managed to abuse one journalist reporting on a peaceful demonstration and in so doing has managed to call into question the freedom of the press per se !!!

Trump Calls It A 'Beautiful Thing' That Cops Struck Journalist Ali Velshi With Rubber Bullet
He also praised Minnesota supporters' "good genes," adding, "A lot of it is about the genes," in a troubling, disjointed rally speech.

US President Donald Trump called it “the most beautiful thing” that MSNBC journalist Ali Velshi was struck in the knee with a rubber bullet while he was covering a peaceful protest in Minneapolis in May.

Trump inexplicably deemed it “law and order” as a campaign rally crowd in Minnesota cheered him on Friday. Velshi was breaking no law — nor were protesters — when he was injured by police.

Trump mistakenly recounted in his tale that Velshi was painfully struck by a tear gas canister and complained afterward. “Oh my knee, oh my knee,” the president mocked.

"It was the most beautiful thing ... it's called law and order" -- Trump gloats about @AliVelshi getting hit by a rubber bullet in Minneapolis. Sick stuff. pic.twitter.com/bgKSmmL8O7

Velshi was taken aback that Trump considered his injury “law and order.” He asked: “What law did I break while covering an entirely peaceful (yes, entirely peaceful) march?”

So, @realDonaldTrump, you call my getting hit by authorities in Minneapolis on 5/30/20 (by a rubber bullet, btw, not a tear gas cannister) a “beautiful thing” called “law and order”. What law did I break while covering an entirely peaceful (yes, entirely peaceful) march?

    — Ali Velshi (@AliVelshi) September 19, 2020
MSNBC also lashed out after Trump’s comment. “Freedom of the press is a pillar of our democracy,” the network said in a statement. “When the president mocks a journalist for the injury he sustained while putting himself in harm’s way to inform the public, he endangers thousands of other journalists and undermines our freedoms.”

The Velshi slam wasn’t the only jaw-dropping comment Trump made at the rally.

He also boasted that his overwhelmingly white supporters at the rally in Bemidji (Minnesota is 84% white) have “good genes,” raising an ominous Aryan spectre from the 1940s. “You have good genes, you know that, right? A lot of it is about the genes, isn’t it, don’t you believe? The racehorse theory,” Trump said.

"You have good genes, you know that, right? You have good genes. A lot of it is about the genes, isn't it, don't you believe? The racehorse theory. You think we're so different? You have good genes in Minnesota." -- Trump pic.twitter.com/OiF63qZaKx

    — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) September 19, 2020
He also asked sarcastically if Bemidji was “having a good time with your refugees” — then pivoted to Democratic Minnesota representative Ilhan Omar, who is Muslim American. “How the hell did she win?” he asked.

"Are you having a good time with your refugees?" -- Trump immediately pivots to full blown racism pic.twitter.com/ds9UEpLf9v

    — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) September 18, 2020
He suggested Omar and two other female lawmakers of colour, representatives. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib, be prosecuted for “buying dresses” — but offered no details. “We’ll prosecute them, yeah, why not?” he mused.

"We'll prosecute 'em. Yeah. Why not?" -- Trump suggests congress members AOC, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib should be prosecuted pic.twitter.com/3Sz4c5B8al

    — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) September 18, 2020
He also claimed with absolutely no evidence that the FBI is hiding Hillary Clinton’s emails from the time she was secretary of state, and he threatened to “pull licenses” from broadcasters, which he doesn’t have the power to do.

Trump also indicated Minneapolis would have been totally destroyed had he not called out the National Guard during protests. “You wouldn’t have Minneapolis,” the president said. He didn’t call for the National Guard.

He also praised “great” general Robert E. Lee, who battled to separate the Confederacy from the US government to maintain slavery.

A quick history lesson for the patriots of Minnesota. On July 2, 1863 the 1st Minnesota Volunteers suffered 82% casualties fighting Confederates under the command of Robert E. Lee at Gettysburg. https://t.co/NIPlgqCtMZ

    Round Two !!!

Trump’s wildest coronavirus claim yet gets instant fact-check on Twitter

    HuffPost staff writer
    Sep 22nd 2020 10:26AM
President Donald Trump attempted to downplay the coronavirus pandemic on Monday as the U.S. death toll approached 200,000 by saying it affects "elderly people with heart problems and other problems."

"That's what it really affects," Trump said during a campaign rally in Ohio. "That's it."

Trump also said the virus doesn't really affect anyone below the age of 18.

"In some states, thousands of people, nobody young... they have a strong immune system, who knows," he said. "But it affects virtually nobody. It's an amazing thing."

According to the CDC, some 400,000 people under the age of 18 have been infected with the coronavirus. While many cases were mild or even without symptoms, at least 576 patients under the age of 18 were hospitalized for the infection between March and July.

The president's comments also contradicted his own past statements.

"It's turning out it's not just old people," Trump told journalist Bob Woodward in March in comments that were only recently made public. "Just today and yesterday, some startling facts came out. It's not just old –- older. Young people, too. Plenty of young people."

In public, however, Trump has continued to spend much of the pandemic trying to downplay the virus. In February, he predicted the number of cases "within a couple of days" would be "down to close to zero." More recently, Trump has tried to dismiss cases in "blue" states.

"The blue states had tremendous death rates," Trump said last week. "If you take the blue states out, we're at a level that I don't think anybody in the world would be at, we're really at a very low level."

Former Vice President Joe Biden took the opposite approach when asked about the climbing death toll, warning against becoming numb to the news.

"We can't lose the ability to feel the sorrow and the loss and the anger for so many lives lost," Biden said in Manitowoc, Wisconsin on Monday. "We can't let the numbers become statistics, a background noise, just a blur that we see on the nightly news."

Biden said the Covid-19 deaths weren't just numbers but "empty chairs at dining room tables and kitchen tables that weeks and months ago were filled with a loved one, a mom, a dad, a brother, a sister."

On social media, Trump's critics zeroed in on his use of the phrase "virtually nobody" as both callous and inaccurate:

They should turn this into a 30 second spot and run it in retirement communities. https://t.co/C5gVngsjfG

Today Trump said covid, "Affects virtually nobody."

In fact, there have only been 3 events with more deaths than covid in ALL OF US HISTORY. https://t.co/2ZBWK5KZRO

Trump's point here is even more cruel than it seems: those who are lost to COVID are just "nobodies" to him -- the same way that soldiers lost in battle are "suckers" and "losers." https://t.co/EAdr9Qf4bV

How does Trump shrugging off old people dying by the thousands play at The Villages in Florida?

    — Schooley (@Rschooley) September 22, 2020
if you take away the blue states, the old, the nonwhite and all the others who died, it affects virtually nobody

    — Farhad Manjoo (@fmanjoo) September 22, 2020
Hey newsflash from trump, a guy I trust for all my medical information! (He is an expert in all topics) Corona doesn't really affect the young, like if you're under 18 you're good, soooo it affects virtually nobody! Phew! https://t.co/XivyocRKf9

"It affects virtually nobody. It's an amazing thing."

"By the way, open your schools."

Just play Trump's actual quotes over shots of a funeral:

"I don't take responsibility at all."

    "It is what it is."

    "It affects virtually nobody." https://t.co/lwC8hVKPNF

    "Virtually nobody" = 200,000 people.

I'm starting to understand how he bankrupted the casinos.

If you, or a family member, or a friend got sick or died of #COVID19, to Trump you are "virtually nobody." https://t.co/wuZCnvN9oD

    — Peter Gleick (@PeterGleick) September 22, 2020
"It affects virtually nobody" except it affected nearly 7 millions of Americans (that we know of) & 31M worldwide, and killed 200K Americans (963K dead worldwide), but sure, keep telling your BS to your gullible base who trust a 2nd grade reality tv show guy over facts & science. https://t.co/3bZIJ9iUn7

    — Francesco Francavilla (@f_francavilla) September 22, 2020
    200,000 dead Americans
    6.9 million infected
    Families shattered
    Millions thrown out of work
Trump tonight: "It (coronavirus) effects (virtually) nobody..."
