that's not true at all. americans were avid hemp farmers up until its sneaky prohibition in 1937.

columbus sailed to america with hemp ropes, hemp sails, and probably everything else hemp. back then, hemp was used for almost everything you can imagine.

hemp has the highest cellulose content of any plant in the world. one acre of hemp can produce 4X the paper that an acre of trees can. additionally, hemp paper is naturally creamy white, meaning that we wouldn't have to use the harsh chemicals we're currently using on paper from trees.

mr. bush fought for several years to try and make hemp food products illegal. he finally lost, several months ago. but i'm still paying $5 for a loaf of hemp bread because it has to be imported.... FYI, hemp seeds are very high in protein and contain all the fatty acids (omegas) that the body needs. you can't get these essential oils from many sources, especially considering how tainted (with heavy metals) our oceans' fish are becoming.

i truly believe that hemp can save the planet. the more you read about hemp, the more you wonder why america won't re-legalize it.

more to come soon... for some reason i forgot all about the environment forum. i'm welcoming myself back. peace.

Hemp has to be the way forward.

You can now get hemp seeds and hemp oil in supermarkets here in the UK. Most health food/whole food stores stock ranges of hemp foods and there are stores that specialize in products made from hemp from clothes to paper to string (v. useful!!) etc. While not all of the hemp is grown in the UK, some of it is. Hemp farmers grow under licence here.

I was amazed to read that it is not grown in the US. Whatever happened to the land of the free????

A word about hemp. While it may be environmentally friendly etc PLEASE check that when you buy hemp products that they are from fair trade sources or countries where workeres have rights. Hemp from China is not fair trade - most chinese workers are heavily exploited. Pust for licencing hemp growing in the US if you can. Get lobbying!!!

Most Chinese factory workers make 2 -10 times more than non-factory workers living in the same town. Don't believe the hype.
