I understand cops have to do their jobs, I have run in to tons of cops that have let me/friends off the hook with weed (especially in Toronto) where they know their priorities. Im speaking strictly as a Canadian not an American living in a police state. I think regardless we should give this guy the benefit of the doubt rather then shunning him saying hes a pig. Hes looking for help and I don't think information should be withheld based on his profession. Good luck on the test dude, hopefully shit pans out for you. earthmother, its called opportunity cost. Id rather work as a cop doing my job making a decent living then being a janitor when I have the choice. What I'm talking about is called "right livelihood" (look it up), which simply means that you will only work in a profession that does not harm anyone or harm the environment. And unfortunately for some here who choose not to believe it, there IS something to be said for having high ideals that you are willing to live up to. There is also the little detail about whether or not you wish to even support a business at ALL which is notorious for harming people. If you don't support them, it's called boycotting. And generally, people with high ideals and morals, people who actually THINK for themselves and don't just go along with the crowd, are the ones who do most of the boycotting. If more people had moral principal, the world would be a MUCH NICER PLACE. But it appears from THIS thread that many younger folks just don't GET IT yet. Ok, fine, go back to sleep children. Going to college does not insure you will not ultimately become a dealer. YOU do. And not ALL dealers are scum. Some of them are some of the BEST folks I know. Some of them are FAR nicer and more helpful folks than ANY cop I have ever met.
I think it is YOU that does not understand. If the world had no police, what stops the guy next door from killing you and looting your house or your moms house? Like it or not lady, if cops were "no more" people would not suddenly shape up and conform to peace and love. I think you're a hippy. I also met a cop who was paralyzed because of a guy who shot him while trying to rob a bank. Your ideals are skewed to say that the police force are notorious for harming people. I'm still a "young gal". I'm speaking about NOW, and I'm speaking about the INCREASING police state which IS happening, even if there are a few who still don't see it.. this is something that I have wanted to do for a long time, and now I have the oppurtunity I think it would be an interesting and fun job. I wouldn't put down your career choice or anybody elses for trying to accomplish their dreams. Some people want to be undertakers well shit that would be a shitty job in my opinion, but hey kudos to that person. I am not going to cut down someone just because I have come across some shitty undertakers, just listen to how close minded you are being. Hey Earthmother... Sorry, and I mean it nicely... but I disagree. I hope he does get the job, and does become a cop. As a matter of fact, I think he will make a decent cop (as long as he does not become corrupted, and conform with the type of cops your talking about). See, you gotta understand a few things. 1. cops are not really out to bust people who smoke weed... I'm Canadian, and they are very ok with that here... Many of them do actually go after "real" criminals... (PS: I am not referring to the RCMP, who actually are real criminals). 2. Wouldn't you want to see more open minded - peaceful cops out there who want to make the world better... Perhaps him being human enough to smoke weed, will make him more compassionate when he becomes a cop... and IMO, I would rather have him on the job, than some straight laced, conservative prick that became a cop as it was the best job he could find after he was too old to be the high school jock/bully... Rainbow family has been doing it that way for well over 30 years. It hasn't "not worked" yet. It worked here at a large music festival which we hosted. NO "security" necessary. It has even happened that rainbows, in a city environment in the "real world", and upon seeing something bad go down, have hollered "shanti sena" and enough people knew what it meant that trouble was averted... It has been proven in the U.S. court system by many different judges during many different lawsuits by people who said the cops did not protect them in various instances, that it is NOT the duty of police officers to protect you, and they can not be held liable if they don't. I HAVE done a lot of research. Honestly. If someone wishes to kill me or a loved one, the cops will not be there until AFTER the dirty deed is done, to "investigate". How does that help me? If I'm robbed, the cops come LATER to take a statement. If I'm raped, the same thing. Now, just think about this. I can only speak for my experience with cops. And I've had A LOT. Not as in being a criminal, but as in being someone in a counter culture, someone in a rock band, and someone who many times has gone into court as moral support for a friend who has been victimized BY THE POLICE. And because of these things, I've been targeted as well. This is one of the poorest states in the US. This is one of the poorest counties in the state. We are notorious for having some of the WORST cops, and the WORST cop stories in the state. One of the State cops who works in this county, I have known since he was a high school jock. THAT individual has caused more trouble, been the subject of more lawsuits, lied in court more often, botched more cases than any other cop I know about. He was responsible for a dear friend's house burning down as well. FACT. I was forced (I thought) to call 9-11 once due to someone close to me having a very serious panic attack. The police lied to me about what they were going to do and instead, sent a SWAT TEAM out to "handle" the situation. I had a high powered rifle pointed at my head... Luckily for myself and my friend, he was doing absolutely nothing wrong when the cops caught up with him. Two weeks later this happened to someone else I know and the woman who called 9-11 now has no son because the police gunned him down in cold blood rather than wait him out, and they most certainly COULD HAVE waited him out... MANY people have tried to get something done about these rogue cops. People in politics have tried to get a citizens review board passed but the POLICE won't have it. If you file an official complaint on a State Cop, it gets investigated by the State cops, and they generally find nothing wrong. Wonder why. If you go over their heads to the governor, your complaint just gets forewarded back to the State Police. In the last 2 years, we have had different LOCAL cops (in a county of less than 7300) who were OFFICIALLY charged with SEXUAL ASSAULT, ROBBERY and burglery, one cop got fired for "LOSING" EVIDENCE in several high profile cases..... One murder trial has had to be redone 3 times due to police neglegence. One cop has been caught lying on the stand several times. People have been busted with bogus search warrants based on outright fabrications, or taken into back rooms and beaten up, it just goes on and on. Now, you tell me, WHO is going to protect us??? And HOW is anyone living around here supposed to think the cops are anything other than LYING BASTARDS??? Give me some credit dude. I know what I'm talking about!!! And I'll say again, once you are a cop, try doing something about the corrupt cops you work with and SEE WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU.
theres no arguing with you. It is like you've been brainwashed or something. You can't see the point im making. Im not talking about someone killing you and then the police going to your house, im talking about the guy that is already in jail who if wasen't arrested COULD have robbed or hurt you. A world with out authority would lead to chaos in todays day and age. You're lumping everyone into the same category. Im kind of shocked this discussion is even taking place. I have met more good cops than I have bad and many of them have helped me out greatly. You can live in your fantasy world of figs and daisies where everyone shares and gets along but don't forget to step out into reality every now and then for a breath of fresh air.
