He must not end like Giulio Regeni. Help bringing him back please. I ask everybody to sign Amnesty International's petition for Patrick. Patrick Zaki has been held in custody for well over 2 years now, in contempt of the limits for incarceration according to Egyptian law. Patrick Zaki's trial is scheduled for september, 28. If found guilty he could face 3 years and 5 months more over the ridiculous allegations of "spreading fake news" after the initial charge of "Instigating terrorism" has been stricken out. Under the new charges, his imprisonment has been dragged on for too long and should be released while waiting for the trial. Instead, Egyptian authorities decided to just ignore their own laws and keep him jailed under dire conditions. And after all this time there is no verdict? I just looked in the news search, nothing. What a tragedy.
Just like reporter Mahmoud Hussein of al Jazeera his term is being postponed systematically. Hussein was kept in custody for like 50 months in a row. Egypt is the tomb of any basic human rights. The limit for custody awaiting trial is ultimately set to 620 days according to the Egyptian criminal law. So we are now at the fourth week of arbitrary detention for him.
