And other reasons I don't want to live alone. My daughter was vacuuming and the lights went off. Just in the front part of the house. The circuit breaker has some parts of the house labeled, but nothing in the front part of the house except the burners. How do I figure out how to turn on the lights in the first part of the house without killing myself. The only time I've had to do this before was an older house and I was maybe 12 and I was told exactly what to do by some adult figure. I don't really remember having to deal with this before.
Simply Check For The Circuit Breaker That Has Tripped To The Off Postion And Reset It... Cheers Glen.
Are any of the switches flipped or feels "loose" the opposite way from the rest of them? That is usually the one that needs flipped. If not then just start flipping switches until the lights come on.
If you look down the line of circuit breakers in the on position, you will see one that is slightly kicked back. Flip it the opposite way the other ones are positioned (usually on is the left).. so flip it right then back left.
And what else is plugged in around there? A vacuum shouldn't pop a breaker. Something on that circuit is pulling some serious amps.
They're all turned on and also the "instruction" sticker says to be careful for electrical burn/shock is that just for safety precautions or how likely is it?
Well...three different switches went off. The one in the kitchen, but not the one attached to the refrigerator. The only thing plugged in was the range and toaster oven. In the dining room where the vacuum was nothing was plugged in. Then the other was where my laptop and portable heater were plugged in. I should check to see if the TV was affected too, I'm not sure because I didn't have it on.
Okay there was one that was loose. It worked for all three as well and I didn't die, but I did hurt myself. Anyway, thanks!
I know...I could've given myself a headache googling it or tried to find my phone and called someone who would've made me feel stupid...
One of the switches was really tough...I had to use my thumbs from both hands and I hurt my fingers and my back...although my back was already hurting...also I'm small...I had to reach.
?? It's really not supposed to be tough. If a circuit breaker has been tripped it's usually pretty loose and easy to flip. You may have flipped more switches than you needed to. Multiple outlets are often on the same circuit. If there was an "easy" one, that was probably the only one that you needed to flip. well, in any case, it sounds like everything is fixed now. sorry that you hurt yourself
I'm surprised it wasn't the breaker with the portable heater on it. Those things will be the thing to draw too much and flip breakers in my house.
