(inspired by the i wanna be irish thread) So, what are people's favourite and most hated accents? My absolute favourite is the irish accent - so very sexy. I love busting it out in town. Same goes for scottish. Most hated would be the stereotypical nooo zuland accent. It's too harsh. We don't all talk like that (i hope ) So? what are your opinions?
You mix those 4... add Spanish and Hebrew....and you get my accent. My favorite accent is mine. Least favorite is the gringo one...no diversity.
I like the same accents you do Antithesis, but I don't think Brave sir Rubin just insulted you !? Anyway, Australian accent is also fun. Spanish accents are sweet
actually, i'd like to hear a New Zealand accent. can't say that i've ever heard one before. but i agree, Irish is good. but then again, words are good. i like just about any twist on words. my hertiage predisposes me to prefer the accents of the Isles, but... as i've lived here, i've grown to love a sweet southeastern american accent. just a twinge or flavor if you will
I guess that if I had to pick a least favorite, it would be spanish accents, or any other hispanic accent.
I love Italian, Spanish, Liverpudlian and French accent. Worst would have to be the American accent. I can't STAND it.
Oh man, Sean Connery's voice..... so sexy! I wonder if people realize that american accents sound completely different from each other depending on where the person is from.
First I would like to state I havent read anything at all in this thread... Now then, All I was gonna say is that I think it is weird that so many people that I know think I have some sort of accent that they cannot place when I dont! I hate that! This was a nice place for me to vent that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ I wonder christine? do you think that californians have an accent, i just never seem to feel that i do, i was born and raised in california, and i just really have never heard anyone ever mention a "californian accent" i have heard of east coast accents, southern accents, lousiana accents etc.. I wonder what kind of accent i have? if i have one at all.
I'm not sure really sure, although I do sound differently from people from SoCal because I am from Oregon. I have a coastal Oregon accent, which to my ears, is distinctive from other places. For instance, it involves pronouncing 'wash' as 'warsh' and things like that. Although I have been training myself out of that.
good point. i suppose an "American" accent is however the people on TV talk. out here in America, we have lots of regional manners of speech. it's so different state-to-state, even. a "southern" accent does not cover the range of speech from texas to carolina. and new england slang in massachusetts is not the same as it is in vermont, or in maine. for the non-americans out there... just what does an "american accent" sound like? i'd like to know, since my accent is always kind of changing, depending on my mood. by the way, my least favorite accent is also Hispanic. probably because Tampa is very Hispanic, and i hear it all the time. my favorite accents are the ones that i never hear
I'm glad someone is with me on this one hello! I am just so tired of people thinking that all americans are exactly like the ones they see in movies.
