I know a lot of people here have young kids and might like some ideas for healthy treats for those goblins at home.
There is, unfortunately at lease one major problem with offering home made healthy treats. While still rare, there are cases (at least in the states) of giving out food/ candy tainted with poison or with razor blades inserted into them. I think it would be good if there were special Halloween coupons that people could give out that could be redeemed for various food items or toys at participating stores. That way kids could get safe treats and parents could make their own decisions about what they want their kids to eat.
Hello, that stuff looks delicious for sure. And I wouldn't mind to fill a few of the eggs into my belly . But I guess the young fellas would like to see sugar and fat and more sugar and all that good stuff . Regards Gyro
Some local dentists will give kids money for every pound of candy they hand in. That could turn into a racket I suppose.
Anything is better than feeding kids high-fructose corn syrup laden candy made with ingredients from China. I commend any parent that refuses to let their child go "trick-or-treating." I will take deviled eggs any day over nasty milk chocolate.
I agree with you and I would not hand out homemade snacks as being a parent I would not have allowed my kids to eat those when they got them. That is a really sad statement but also the reality in todays world. When my kids were in grade school their snacks had to be healthy and nut free even for their school parties. You learn to find how to make fun stuff that is along those lines. I thought some of the parents might be in that same boat and maybe it would give them some ideas.
I want to make those deviled eggs! What is used as the stem...is that a piece of a green onion? I can't tell
I used chives when I made them but I think if you sliced the top of the onion a little it would work. I think you could also use a mint leaf or small basil leaf instead if you wanted to.
False. There are many many rumors of such things happening all over the country, but there is only one documented case of any Halloween treats ever being tainted and it was the child's own father that did it. Just some trivia I learned last year.
I just see this strange irony in people's obsession with poisoned Halloween candy, because the candy itself is essentially poison once you consider some of the things that are in the candy and where those ingredients are sourced from. It won't kill you, at least not immediately, but acclimating kids to this sort of garbage only sets them up for bad health and bad habits in the long run.
Halloween is more about make believe and dressing up than candy even though it is candy being passed out when you go door to door...I think someday the door to door trick or treating will be done away with and it will just be Halloween party's and events going on during Halloween.
