Did you know that Hawaiian Pakalōlō plants prefer a "Hawaiian Style" photoperiod of 11/13 Light/Dark in order to reach peak performance -- as opposed to traditional 12/12 photoperiod?

Photoperiod is defined as:

1. the period of time each day during which an organism receives illumination; day length.

While many growers mistakenly believe more Light is necessary to produce bigger buds -- it is actually during the Dark cycle when Pua = Flower formation occurs.

A Pakalōlō plant will continue vegetative growth as long as she receives 14-16 hours of Light per 24 hour cycle.

During her vegetation cycle, a plant will not develop Pua = Flower, she will continue her vegetative growth until the photoperiod is adjusted to a Pua Period initializing hormonal changes that produce Pua = Flower.

Traditionally indoor growers set their lights at 12/12 Light/Dark in order to induce Pua = Flower cycle.

When cultivating Hawaiian Pakalōlō our Genetic Specialists highly recommend a "Hawaiian Style"photoperiod of 11/13 Light/Dark.

Our old school guerilla growers even go as low as 10/14 Light/Dark in order to simulate a "Hawaiian Style" Bush Grow with partial shade for particular Pakalōlō plants like Puna Buddaz.

Hawaiian sativa strains like Maui Wowie, Kona Gold & Kaua'i Electric became world famous in the 1960's & 70's & have been grown here in Hawai’i for hundreds of years. During this time they acclimatized to the environment of paradise and produced their pungent tropical terpene profiles.

Perhaps the most important factor in growing a Hawaiian sativa successfully indoors is the photoperiod or light cycle you give your plants.

Without a "Hawaiian Style" photoperiod your Hawaiian Pakalōlō plants will not develop Pua = Flower properly.

In Hawai’i there is between a maximum of 13 hours and 26 minutes during the summer solstice on June 21st to 10 hours and 50 minutes during the winter solstice on December 21st.

There is less than a 3 hour difference between the longest day of the year and the shortest day of the year here in Hawai’i.

There is also no daylight savings time, we never have to set our watches back or forward -- we always stay on Hawai’i time.

Hawaiian landrace strains barely recognize a difference between their Natural outdoor vegetative growth photoperiod at 13 hours and the traditional indoor 12/12 Pua = Flower photo period.

Many new growers who attempt to flower a strain like Maui Wowie indoors at 12/12 will notice that Wahine = Female Maui Wowie plants may take up to 4-6 weeks to display their first hairs!?!

Try inducing a 11/13 or even a 10/14 light/dark "Hawaiian style" photoperiod and watch the dramatic difference displayed as your Maui Wowie plants begin flowering right away and fully finish in up to 9-11 weeks as opposed to Maui Wowie flowered at 12/12 that may even still be light and airy with prematurely developed buds at 11 weeks, making growers believe they need longer to finish or that they are unable to grow Hawaiian strains indoors properly.

With a "Hawaiian Style" photoperiod -- Hawaiian Pakalōlō plants finish strong & do not take as long!
