First of all, this is not a certified medical condition but does have some currency among psychologists. From my observations it is not a good path to follow in life. That does not mean that you should not become assertive when necessary.

The only person we should be superior to is our former selves

Like it's painful? oh the agony of stranded with monkeys and cant get a decent meal?

I think really it's hard to pin that in one pigeon hole that could come from several Origins not the least of which actually an inferiority complex. To me that would be more dangerous and risky to play with than somebody, who for all the crazies there are, believed it and happily so. Not being able to be clear about our whys means we're dependent on fooling ourselves, which of course weakens our ability to fool anybody else.
Like the person who really did like company and want to be gregarious with people and yet pretended to be a snob, because they have a personal issue. In that case they're actively denying their own self the good thing they want and pretending to poo-poo It off.
