I am blown away how craft beer has really blown up over the last several years. It went to being this ultra local phenomenon, with most small to medium sized cities now having multiple craft breweries, some of which are making highly regarded beers. In my neck of the woods we now have Other Half; a renowned New York City brewery which in the last year opened a second location just 45 minutes south of me in Bloomfield, New York. There is also Mortalis Brewing in Avon, NY, which is 30 minutes south of me, whose beers are sought nationally despite being open just over a year. So what are some craft breweries that are local to you? What is the last craft beer you have had?
Houston has a bunch of them. St. Arnold and Karbach are probably the largest. Then there's 8th Wonder, Bayou City Brewing, Southern Star to name just a few. The last craft brew I had was yesterday when I got home from work. Abita is a Louisiana brewery and they make a Pecan Ale which is delicious and I had one.
The best brewery in my city is Birds Fly South. They specialize in sours. I dont think they really distribute; they're strictly a local brewery And I live an hour from Asheville which if I'm not mistaken has the highest number of breweries per capita in the US. But somehow everytime I go I end up at the same one - The Thirsty Monk, which does a lot of traditional Belgian beers (plus they have a pretty rad rooftop speakeasy that specializes in prohibition era cocktails)
Exile, Firetrucker, Confluence, Madhouse, Fox, 515, Peace Tree just to name a few. Iowa has a HUGE craft beer market. I'm not a beer drinker but my husband is a craft beer connoisseur. Any time we travel he checks out the local craft beer.
Had some bockbier that's technically a craft beer. But its not from a tiny local brewery. Hertog Jan (Duke John) if you're interested. One of my fav dutch brands
Are you anywhere near Bettendorf? There is this home brewer who goes under the name Adventurous Brewing who sells his beers in kegs to local bars/restaurants, and they are some of the most highly rated on the Untappd app.
I had to fact check mahself Asheville is number 2 And I was really surprised to see my little city on the top 10 list at number 7. Portland, Maine is number one Portland 8th in U.S. for breweries per capita. The 'other' Portland is No. 1
No I'm a few hours away from there. I'll have my husband keep an eye out for it though if it ever makes its way here.
Asheville is a hipster college town, so it makes sense they would have a lot of craft breweries. Wicked Weed is located in Asheville. You should check it out. You will not be disappointed. I think Burial is in Asheville, too.
And Burial the time before that..I had to look up a picture to make sure it was the same one Funny you mentioned those two
Good! I wish I was more of a connoisseur so I could say things like "notes of chocolate and a hint of cracker" lol but "good!" is all I have to offer We just stopped in for a drink. I had the Pernicious IPA Really good IPA, I'm not usually a big fan of IPAs
Yeah, Pernicious is an excellent, classic southeast IPA, but it's their sours and wild ales that are really their forte.
Pete's Wicked. I remember that shit from way back in the day. I am pretty sure it's not even made anymore. But I am not sure it was ever considered "craft" either.
