Have you ever?

For the record, I think Metallica is one of the worst bands ever. They're terrible, they ruined Napster, and they come out with 1 album every decade. Their sound doesn't evolve, it's stagnant and sucks the life out of real metal music that is breathless and takes your own breath away.

I never really felt all that strongly about Metallica one way or another. I agree that there is far better music out there... of many different genres... at least in my opinion.

 

This is true. It just bothers me that some people speak as if Metallica is the band that transcended heavy metal, or that without Metallica, the metal genre would never be the same. Metallica is like commercialized pop radio metal. It's marketable and easily manufacturable, in my opinion.

 

Metallica should have quit after Burton died. I like the s/t but I hate seeing the legacy of Ride the Lightning tarnished.

Metallica is obviously shit now and has been a group of rich pussies for longer than anyone would care to mention, but there's no denying that back in the day they were on the forefront of the thrash movement, the music they played came from the heart, and they tapped into the zeitgeist. Yes, there are better metal bands (many, and much better). But Metallica's success is not entirely undeserved.

 

How can you have your breath taken away if it's breathless...?

 

Dude, who has it NOT ever happened to? That is the best moment. When you are sitting there and you go from being blah to being high and relaxed... man that is THE feeling. All the stress leaves, you feel happy and wonderful and the only sound you can make in acknowledgment is the sound of utter and complete giddy laughter. That is awesome......
