One almost flew into me as I was putting more food into the hummingbird feeder. Those wings sounded like helicopter rotary blades :D

I can't remember. There are a few that come around everyday to the feeder. Some are shimmering orange, brown and green. Beautiful, cheeky lil things.

Wow! I can't even imagine! They are so small and delicate. I am sure their bodies are warm from all the energy they generate.

Yes. I was taking a break on a customers back patio about a foot from a feeder. One of the little guys flew down to feed and I guess noticed a change in the area--me-- and did the same thing you describe. After hovering for bit and moving back and forth in front of me--he/she fed and left. Pretty cool.

When I lived in CA, about 40 miles from Yosemite, my place was right on the migration route for two different species, plus I had some that stayed through most of the year. I had three feeders out... All summer I would go through 3 gallons of nectar a day... There would be Hummingbirds about three rows deep at the feeders. When I filled the feeders they would just hover there waiting...

It was estimated that would have been about 300 birds at its height of feeding frenzy...

We had these bushes right outside my bedroom window when I was growing up called fuchsias. Hummingbirds are obsessed with them and they were constantly buzzing out there... But not near my face.

Unfortunately, we don't have any Hummingbirds in the UK.
It would be nice to see them, but interfering with nature could have disastrous consequences for our indigenous species.
