As I understand, it originally existed on paper. A subatomic particle that can go faster than the speed of light. The Tachyon.

I know that they thought they discovered it once. But that was just a bug in their equipment apparently.

A Tachyon would have some unique properties. Going faster than light, it would be going back in time, not forward. I don't know about the the rest of you, but I have a message or two I would love to tell the past.

So how goes the search for this elusive particle then?

Thank you to all who reply :)

I know it's a little late to ask this: but absolutely no replies?

    :)

We're still getting around to it...

Oh shit, I forgot to mention it before. I actually found it a while ago but it slipped BACK IN TIME, so yeaaah... We gotta wait for the whole universe to finish expanding and collapse and loop back to 1985, and I'll be ready next last time.

It's a bit tricky to find something moving back in time.

I wouldn't bet on it in the next decade. But who can say really. Physics is pretty weird beyond the extreme layers.

The tachyon, being faster than the speed of light, is incredibly elusive. To try to capture it based on our perspective would involve increasing resistance, but this has the opposite effect on a tachyon, from any particle we deal with in our reality---increased resistance causes a greater velocity in a tachyon.

But not to worry, here in America researchers have discovered a particle that is very much related to the tachyon----it is known as the tardedon (This tardedon is different from the tardyon which simply moves slower than the speed of light). Like the tachyon, the tardedon also moves back in time, and as it turns out, they appear in clusters. Here in the US there are numerous clusters that are passing through the Nation, and what is interesting is that they exist as entangled particles. Therefore what is experienced or encoutered in one cluster of tardedons can be understood through the entangled particles that still exist in the present---therefore we know that there is a major cluster estimated to be somewhere in the early 1960's, somewhere before the civil rights movement was making headway. There is another group of tardedons in the 1950's, back when a woman was more like a domestic helper subjugated in a man's world. It was also a time when government overstepped its bounds in such ways as McCarthyism. There is a massive cluster that is stretched from the 1930's into the mid 1940's---you know, back when Nationalism and Fascism raised its ugly head. There is another good sized cluster that has been moving around in the late 1800's for sometime---back where the Robber Barons exploited a very large portion of the population of American workers, and before there was the economic controls to manage deflation and inflation (known as the Central Bank).

Where resistance increases the velocity of a tachyon, the tardedons are in fact slowed by resistance, though they haven't encountered much over recent years--it seems that clusters cause surrounding particles to convert to tardedons themselves. On the other hand, information slows tardedons down. Scientists believe it is because of a quantum anomaly that leaves them void of information. This anomaly presents a puzzle because it does not allow any new information to fill the void---in other words, the tardedon cannot be educated. It doesn't matter how reality changes around it, or what information is injected into the system, or how the signs contradict the tardedon reality---it is simply uneducatable, and information or education simply dumbfounds it and slows it down.

Unfortunately, scientists have discovered that clusters of tardedons also damage the surrounding space-time continuum. They are also referred to as tards, retards, Republicans, and the GOP. The passage back in time of these tardedons has altered space-time such that women see their rights being rolled back, racism and bigotry have been on the rise, there has been a return to Nationalism and Fascism, the very wealthy few percent of the country have taken over in a modern day Gilded Age, and continue to gain a Robber Baron like status, which has also been very detrimental to the wage growth and wealth attrition of the middle and lower classes, right as social safety nets to help those who have fallen on hard times, or whose income cannot support them, are being stripped away. Meanwhile rampant greed has brought a serious colusion between HMO's, insurance companies, and phamraceuticals, such that it is rapidly becoming that only the wealthy can afford to see doctors or get medical care. Xenophobia and religious persecution are on the rise, as well as protectionism and we now openly pursue a racist level of anti-immigration as if we had never grown beyond the racism of the early 1900's. Even anti-science has reached an idiotic level of control over the nation, as this quantum anomaly of the tardedon seems to block the proper assumption, processing, and application of new information.

The tachyon in the context of the Higgs field and boson.

    Higgs boson

    Higgs boson - Wikipedia

    From the article:

"Mathematically, the Higgs field has imaginary mass and is therefore a tachyonic field.[85] While tachyons (particles that move faster than light) are a purely hypothetical concept, fields with imaginary mass have come to play an important role in modern physics.[86][87] Under no circumstances do any excitations ever propagate faster than light in such theories — the presence or absence of a tachyonic mass has no effect whatsoever on the maximum velocity of signals (there is no violation of causality).[88] Instead of faster-than-light particles, the imaginary mass creates an instability: Any configuration in which one or more field excitations are tachyonic must spontaneously decay, and the resulting configuration contains no physical tachyons. This process is known as tachyon condensation, and is now believed to be the explanation for how the Higgs mechanism itself arises in nature, and therefore the reason behind electroweak symmetry breaking.

Although the notion of imaginary mass might seem troubling, it is only the field, and not the mass itself, that is quantised. Therefore, the field operators at spacelike separated points still commute (or anticommute), and information and particles still do not propagate faster than light.[89] Tachyon condensation drives a physical system that has reached a local limit – and might naively be expected to produce physical tachyons – to an alternate stable state where no physical tachyons exist. Once a tachyonic field such as the Higgs field reaches the minimum of the potential, its quanta are not tachyons any more but rather are ordinary particles such as the Higgs boson.[90]"

Physicists have already observed the Quantum Zeno Effect and observed entropy flowing backwards in a micron sized Styrofoam sphere suspended above a heat bath in optical tweezers. Quantum Field theory is the foundation of Standard theory used to describe all of these, and tachyons, but the mass of the Higgs Boson turned out to be lower than expected, suggesting higher energy cosmic ray experiments are required to settle the issue. However, there are a number of different approaches, including topological insulators, that might produce results first and, within a decade, the computers should spit out a Theory of Everything.
