Has someone ever said something mean about you and you took it as a compliment?

just now upon getting some coffee and telling him to eat shrooms my brother called me a communist. I said what have I said that expresses my belief in communism? and he said.. most hippies are communists.

I would get called a communist in my high school by this one asshole because I would refuse to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. I'd say, "I'd rather be a communist than a fascist."

 

People call me that "stoner hippie freak" a lot, Rarely in a complementary tone. I smile and walk away. Then the usual, "sac-religious, over opinionated bitch." the 3 that make no sense are when vegetarianism, being a free spirit and always smiling are a bad thing? But, Where I'm from they are.

 

This thread brings to mind one of my favorite Oscar Wilde quotes: "The only thing worse than being talked about it not being talked about." Seriously, we freaks give the boring people something to talk about. I just think it's funny when they try so hard to be condescending and insulting and they end up looking like fools. Hahaaaaa!

 

I get called weird and such, I guess because I don't talk a whole lot to people, and because I don't follow their happy little trends and cliques. But I have absolutely no problem with that, because I'm just being myself. :]

 

What do you mean by dress loud ? How where you dress ? Like hippie a punk or gothic?

I like to wear blazers/sport coats, which most people my age don't wear as they consider it "over-dressing." I have gotten more than a few back-handed comments suggesting that I was an eccentric weirdo for dressing in such a manner, but I found it to be a compliment! I don't want to dress like every other 23 year old graduate student, who tends to dress like a generic preppy but shitty-clothes nonetheless, person. I spend good money on my clothes, but at least they look clean and crisp and last for many years.

 

I got told 12 years ago in high school ' you are such a freak, and you listen to such old music - you should listen to cool music - like Britney Spears' looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool, no wonder I turned out a little dismissive of most peoples taste and intelligence.

 

"You look like some fuckin' Woodstock reject...", "Ohmigosh, you have red hair! You should dye it brown or smth!" , "fuck you"... Need I mention the insults I received because of my musical tastes? And apparently I'm snotty. Oh well, can't please everybody...
