I'm confused.

on August 30th, the WTO said that the US was right and that Canada was dumping their lumber on us.

On December 5th..the wto said this..

"Canada is pleased with today’s World Trade Organization (WTO) Appellate Body decision, which supports Canada’s position that U.S. procedures used to establish countervailing duties (CVD) on Canadian softwood lumber imports are inconsistent with WTO rules"

Now, to me, it doesn't sound like the december 5th ruling overrules the august 30th one..but that we didnt follow the rules for establishing countervailing duties.

ah well, i dont understand the rulings all that well. I believe the bush administration has cut a large % of the tariffs.

There were two different duties imposed on Softwood Lumber. One as a reaction to subsidy - which was ruled incorrectly calculated but just (ie: the tariff should be recalculated and Canada should be back-paid) - and a second anti-dumping tariff - where both NAFTA and the WTO ruled Canada wasn't dumping. This second tariff has not been repaid and not been completely removed.

Don't flatter yourself. The worldwide demand for our exports - softwood, oil, minerals, etc - is only growing. And as a country we are already working on diversifying.
