I am a firefighter/paramedic. I work 24 hours on/48 Hours off. Yes, they are hiring, if you have an IL paramedic license..........

i may be joining the ranks in the future....gotta take the civil service test first in MA for boston firefighter. then we'll see if i get accepted into the academy.

 

Right On Brother! It is the best job in the world. I would not trade it for anyother job in the world. Well, most jobs out there. Do you have to be a paramedic as well in MA?

i'm not sure...haven't read anything about that. i know they answer a lot of calls before the ambulances get on scene though...so yea, not sure.

 

alright, just did some digging around, and yea, to be cerftified at Firefighter level 1, must complete first responder training/EMT

 

EMT is different than paramedic. In most states there are 3 levels of EMT:
EMT-Basic
EMT-Intermediate
EMT-Paramedic
Sounds like you will be a EMT-B. All firefighters have to be at least that. Around Chicagoland, most (70%) have to be firefighter/paramedic. We even have our engines,trucks, and squads have supplies for paramedic procedures like IV, intubate, meds, etc. They do not transport, but if they are first on the scene, they are able to do invasive procedures until the ambulance gets there. It will be good to have another brother around here...............

good to know. i haven't really put much reading into the MA firefight site, i'm still a ways away from even being admitted to the academy. so taking one step at a time.

how long have you been a FF?

 

almost 3 years. I also work in a ER as a paramedic. I help out the RNs and MDs.................

Hmm.. i think I have you all beat. I take care of a 99 year old woman. she sleeps 22 hours a day, I have the house to myself, I have my own room, her family only visits twice a week, once to bring groceries, the other to pay me cash, no taxes, I smoke weed all day, cook, poke at her a few times a day, have visitors, drink beer, and get paid beaucoup bucks, without having to run into a fiery building.
