I am not yet....but will be later.... Interesting text from my brother this morning saying that every St. Paddy's day...at 5 am, he hears faint whispers from 5th Ave NY like St. paddy day parades past.....like ghosts of the past....as there is nothing going on yet where the noise is coming from. i never heard him speak of ghosts before....
and what will you be doing today? an irish jig? irish food? drinking green beer? partying? being quiet?
The Irish is in my blood and soul, and the bright Kelly greens are not the greatest color on me, but I do well in army greens, pale minty greens, although I just don't wear green too often. My eyes are green. I was thinking of those shamrock skakes from McDonald's a few hours ago and how I missed getting any there this season yet.....maybe tomorrow, and that will be supper tomorrow. Hey, is it Mally boy's birthday today, the 18th? It is my brother's birthday.... The 18th too! Happy birthday, Mally boy!
from what i've been able to find out about who he actually was and what he actually did, i'm afraid i don't much either. born in ireland, went to rome, became a priest, came back to ireland and committed genocide against the druids. i've also been lead to understand the day is not commonly celebrated in ireland. green is of course the flag of irish protestants and orance that of irish catholics. which makes the whole green thing a bit odd considering. pretty sure the day is more an american thing then an irish one. though it may have had some connection to irish emigrants fleeing the potato famine, and some sort of royal negligent mismanagement that may have lead to that. i'm a bit hazy the post potato famine details and what the direct connection was. corned beef and culcannon i'll go for, but i'm not much of a one for booze, with or without the addition of green food coloring. i pretty much always wear green though, it being my favorite color, and not a statement of support for irish protestant, nor the i.r.a, but i do love some of the odd trains ireland has had in the past, and those it keeps and reinvests in now. and the buses made a big deal about how they were going to be free on the day, but they were only free from 4 in the afternoon until midnight, and i was back home before then.
dalriadic (by way of ireland, origen milsian galithia) + picts (indiginous to scotland) = scotts my father's mother's father, andrews
It's a strange one, people seem to celebrate it by getting pissed drinking Guinness... But that's about it. Even in Ireland! Mally you suit red hair!!!! Happy birthday mate!
i am easily distracted by laser pointers and fail to fact check my sources. also times change. and the last i looked into this was a couple of decades ago. how far off was i on the rest of it?
