And if you have friends who don't have anywhere or anyone to celebrate with, feel free to allow them to celebrate with you. Enjoy!
We Obviously Don't Celebrate Thanksgiving Here In OZ, But I'd Like To Wish All My American... ...Friends A Very Happy Thanksgiving......... Cheers Glen.
Is it really a holiday? Like do you get the day off or week off or something? Or is it just dinner, really?
Retail and restaurant workers dont get the day off, and of course medical workers But other than that i think most people do But yeah, it is a holiday for eating and watching football and being as lazy as humanly possible..except for the poor matriarchs who have been up cooking since 5 am
i think a pretty vast majority of retail and restaurants still close for thanksgiving. basically a few big chain stores open late for early black friday shopping, some bars and gas stations are open, and chinese food. then any of those 24/7/365 jobs like medical, law enforcement, etc. aren't they all pretty dumb? i really don't see the appeal of creating obligation to celebrate a certain day. if you want to have a nice meal with your family, just fucking do it; you don't need a random day on the calendar to tell you that you have to do it.
I hate my family, If it wasnt for holidays I'd only see them as regularly as it would take my mum to nag me to death about it, which would be less than 3 or so times a year holidays account for But yeah, holidays are dumb, why arent there any family unfriendly holidays? Bongsgiving - everyone just gets the day off work to sit at home, order pizza, pull cones and play video games.......thats what I want, not getting stuck listening to my 300 pound Aunt talk for two hours about her health problems
But do you really need a holiday for that? Isn't this what a family avoiding individual could do every week?
Yeah, I want to give it a cool name though, not just "Tuesday" Bongsgiving or Merry Excessmuch, or in Glenglens case, The Other Queens Birthday - we all sit around barefoot, grow dreads, get drunk on Chardonnay
You can always just not go to stuff if you hate your family. Eventually they'll stop calling and inviting. And you'll be THAT asshole person no one likes or wants around.
There was a time that little stores and some retail stores wouldn't be open all day; but, they might open up later in the afternoon. Unfortunately unless you work at one of the places that closes for the day (yes! there are a few places that choose to let their workers be with family that day...just not many), its work as usual for others. However, for schools, universities and similar they get a long weekend off - sometimes from Wesnesday (the day before Thursday Thanksgiving)...and of course they get off Thursday and Friday also...then they have the weekend off, as usual. Having the holiday on a Thursday actually gives people a longer holiday than if Thanksgiving had been on a Friday.
We had one of them. I honestly don't think it is him that dosnt want to be around our family. I think it's his skanky wife that dosnt want to be around us. Which it mostly works out. Nobody wants her around either. My mom said she wants us kids to stand outside the doorway of her funeral to make sure she dosnt come in.
