Some people don't even get time and a half... They are supposed to just be happy they are working at all.
there's no nationally mandated pay rate for working on "special" days here. people get anywhere from regular pay to double and a half, depending on the employer. seems stupid to me. you're doing the same job as you do any other day; just because there's more drunk idiots at the beaches doesn't mean you're working any harder than you do any other day, unless you're a lifeguard.
Happy 4th of July everyone! Independence Day is 241 years old. Also.... Today is Hippie.com/HipForums Day! She's 21 years old. Thanks and Congrats to Skip and Chris.
July 4th memories...BBQ mutton with my great-granddad's BBQ sauce, baked beans, German potato salad, coleslaw (the vinegar kind), watermelon and homemade ice cream. And Sundrop to drink.
The son of the old couple acroas the street is rocking a gigantic confederate flag on the back of his truck on this day in honor of the UNITED State's independence, lol
The guy down the road has been flying the Stars And Bars since 2008 when Obama was elected. He'll probably be shooting guns later, after he's recovered from the latest hangover.
I often wonder if we would have been better off if the south had become it's own country. Even today there is a still a huge social and politcal difference between them and the rest of the country. And they still hold on this romanticized notion of them being their somehow not part of America. The Stars and Bars are treason. But to be fair so is the American flag we just won our war so our rebellion is glorious and awesome. Even though it was that same idea that created the South. Maybe it's because I am not from there but as a history buff I am fascinated by what they have turned that flag into and how they feel they can be both American and southern with it compered to what it actuly represents.
Nope nope nope Not all of the south is like that, southern cities are thriving economically and are usually more progressive in their politics than the rural south. The south/north cultural and political divide isn't really there anymore, it seems like the difference is marked more by the urban/rural divide
