I like seeing church-goers gobble away on easter eggs and sing about bunnies. I suppose it's just like voodoo peeps killing chickens for St.Mary! ~
I've stopped celebrating eater (and christmas) but I might take advantage of the inevitable easter egg clearout sales that will take place shortly.
I've just come back from the supermarket. Raging. I asked where all their clearance sale easter eggs have got to. They said there arent any. Oh? Where are they? i asked In the bin was the matter of fact reply. No room to keep them on show. Hundreds. The other month I was waiting just outside a large train station for the first train at some hideous hour in the morning. Trundling past me were a couple of guys pushing giant container trolleys full to the brim with food. I thought they were delivering it. Nope. They tipped it all into a skip next to me. Was last nights unsold products from all the cafes etc in the station. These reminders are needed to keep me tuned in to how much waste goes on in our society. It's not good to forget. To let it slip and waste in your own way. Not thinking of the big picture. phew... maybe i should start a new thread! ~
Waste really pisses me off. I hate throwing anything away. Even a little bit of packaging. Whoops, there goes another little bit of our planet pissed into the wind. Don't get me wrong - I can consume with the best of them. But waste is an entirely different kettle of lentils.
there is a reason...it is a money reason but it's still a reason... Starbucks used to give their lefotver baked products from the day to homless shelters. One guy claimed he had got food poisoning from one of the their muffins and sued them successfully for some amount of money. Presumably, it's much cheaper for the companies to throw the stuff away than it is to be paying for settlements and fines.
haha, well done that man! *mumbles, starbucks gr starbucks nasty prices mumble grr rant rave...ooo rave *
i'm not sure why i said that. i don't even know which man i'm talking about. that comment is now invalid. but starbucks prices are awfully high. that point is still true.
Their coffee sucks as well. Then again, I can't stand coffe. It's like I was genetically engineered to be invulnerable to any and all viruses, injuries and forms of torture except coffee. It is my kryptonite.
coffee is great...i do object to paying £2 odda cup...but because my friend works there i get it for free...
I love it how people come on this site and complain about capitalism and "the system", and then go amd sit in places like Starbucks and feed the evil companies with money. (that wasn't aimed at you Josie) Jamiexx
Yeah, but it's not that simple, is it? Have you ever made use of a motorised vehicle? Well congratulations. You just helped finance the petrochemical industry. It's not possible in the modern world to entirely avoid contributing to 'the system' - it's just about drawing the line with which you personally feel comfortable.
We boooo'd Starbucks when we went past it on the march last month... I know it's not constructive but it was jolly good fun
em.... excuse me but the reason starbucks coffe is "so expensive" is because they are paying a fair price for the coffee beans so that 3rd world farmers can make a reasonable living rather than living off rats and using all their money to pay off ridiculous debts!!! personally, i dont particularly mind spending an extra few pennies, that lets face it i'd probably lose down the back of some sofa anyway, if it's gonna help out someone else. if your gonna pick on a company , research nestle....theres your planet rapists!
