You could always get an older model like the DSi. There's stilly ins of games for that and the benefit is that the device will be cheaper and so will the games. I think that would be a good first for him. He's 6 after all and probably by the time he wants to upgrade there will be something else. I wouldn't buy a tablet for a kid that young. Sophia uses John's iPad and my phone to play games a lot, but neither belong to her and I think the tablets made for kids are outgrown rather quickly while both John and I will sometimes pick up the DS to play a game.
Well you'd know more than I do acuarela, but I guess the thing that gets me is that with tablets you can just download more and more games, with gaming systems you have to buy a physical product, right? And keep up with that?
The thing about tablets though is it's wide open internet. He'll be surfing porn in no time and he's a little young for that. Is there a filter you can put on it? And he has one of those kid tablets that looks like some kind of life raft. It sucks though, he outgrew it after like 1 month. I want to just say fuck the video games and buy him a dirt bike, but my sister would kill me haha.
In the same respect, you can buy a ton of really cheap (like in the $1-$5 range) games and apps online for the DS and 3DS. There are a few free apps on there, too.
I remember playing mario on the original game boy when I was that age. Good times. Beat that fucker. Probably couldn't get past level two now
It's easy to limit internet for kids. Your sister probably knows all about that. However, a dirt bike would be awesome! Are you sure she'd have a problem with that? Is there an appropriate place for him to go ride?
I was referring to tablets geared towards kids. A real tablet I wouldn't buy for a kid below maybe 10, because it requires a higher level of care than a DS. My daughter plays more with the iPad than any video game. It's easy to set parental controls, but she only uses the games apps I have for her and I'm always next to her when she's using it. Again is much easier to break a tablet than a DS, even with super protective cases. Another thing is that while there's a ton of cool games and apps for kids, is not the same as the world immersion that a real video game offers and that's something that has it pros and cons.
