Lolololo I love this post xD *stolensiglol*

I would saayy fold it back on itself, then again, so it looks like an S for about an inch, then wrap hemp around it. That would make it XXXXXXtra strong :D

If it were mine I would wrap it with something pretty, hemp or a really large bead.
Or try some felt weaved above, thru, and beyond that stress point.

if that happened to me, I'd thread a strand of hair through a needle and sew it back together... you don't have to use thread, use hair.

I think I'm going to try sewing it. It's only the end so it shouldn't matter too much as I end up trimming every now and again anyway. Losing 4 inches just seems like a lot to lose. But sewing with hair doesn't seem like a bad idea actually, unsure how I could do it without going out and buying human like hair but fuggit. Cat turd end needs a chance. We've made it this far. luls. I'll post a picture of the surguree.

Dreads are about time and not interfering, just leave them alone and they'll do their own thing.

Oh crap, a dread is coming apart, how should i sew it back on?

Only if you promise to look after it forever. I hope it doesn't fall out. I REALLY like it. I think if it does fall out I'll trim the other to size. DV can have the other one.

i'd let it fall, i like when dreads are different sizes.

as far as fixing it, i would do like a sort of root flipping thing, but in the middle

poke a whole above the crack, thread the dread through do this in different spots above and below the crack. it will start getting cool loopys all around it and should hold it into place, plus it will add a cool loop texture in that spot.

whatever you do post some pics

and i would like a piece of dread too. bah, stupid work made me miss my chance to call dibs. LOL

One of my dreads did the exact same thing. I dont know how It happene,d but I think the knots just werent as tight in the middle of iT. Anyhow worse came to worst and I just gently pulled on It and It came off. Now I have a much short stumpier looking dread. If your worried about It, then sew some hair Into It and It should be right as rain.

Needle-felt some wool into it to hold it together until it grows out.

sounds weird, but if you have a friend with long hair, just ask them for a few strands.. I repaired one of mine with a couple strands of my wife's hair lol

Not weird at all 73n51. My husbands got similar hair colour to mine will see if he will lend me a strand. Do I need to tie a knot at the end of the strand like you do with cotton?

LOL Brain decay. Not too fond of teh root flipping method. If anymore fall off you can has teh dibs

it helps to tie a knot, but its not required as long as you wind it within the dread enough to prevent it from slipping out (the longer the hair, the better). I tied a knot at the end when I was doing it and when I ran out of length, I'd just pull hard enough to break the hair/thread from the needle and then palmroll the area that I sewed a bit. Definitely post pics when you finish the surgery. =) and good luck with your dread. I think it'll be just fine.

Gonna do the surgery tomorrow. I can't sew for shit so my husbands gonna do it, he doesn't have time today. I asked if I could use some of his hair and he said that he was going to suggest that himself, anyway. You boys are so useful. Pull through cat turd, pull through.

    { I havnt read this whole thread cuz Im in a hurry...so sorry if this has been said already}
At a certain point dreads will start breaking off naturally....however...in the grande tradition of hair...it grows back. I find dread bits all over the house from my hunnys dreads. It's normal. Remember...dreads are just loose knotted mounds of hair. Eventually the knotted mounds [usually the tips] will break free and fall off. Just like normal [non dready] hair sheds on a daily basis....so do dreads...but it takes longer for the dreads to shed because theyre heavier and knotted. =]
