Helpful is a matter of timing. We are all on our own time and we may find what ever when ever we like.

 

Be that as it may- having disagreements is one thing but launching personal attacks on the basis of a stated opinion does not create a welcoming atmosphere for others to participate. It cheapens the discussion and drives away intellect.

 

No, we are all pretentious. When pretensions are at odds they become contentions.

 

I didn't launch a personal attack, I was commenting on the nature we all share.

 

What you intend and how others read your reply are often two different things- and when the precedent has been set to name call and insult a member based on the response that will weight heavily on what people will read into your contribution- and reason to perhaps be more selective in how an opinion is expressed in order to preserve the integrity of the discussion.... whatever integrity there might still be.

Tom I didn't reply to your whole "It isn't about the 'country'... it is about the people..." comment because i thought that was pretty evident that was what i was talking about in my post.

The reason i am mentioning that is because, i got the impression, as it seems others have as well, you just want to be the smartest pencil in the box, so to speak.

Stinkfoot is right, if you really want to change opinions you have to let the person be able to be swayed in a way that allows them to save face, instead of acting like a pompous intellectual.

Sometimes you have to accept others take for granted ideas that we ourselves have spent time thinking about.

here's a different way to look at it... what I said, was my expression of what I see when I look around... with no attacks on anyone... until I was attacked... to which I responded in kind.

as for the impression others may get of me... perhaps the impression of others is very important to you... it isn't for me, because I speak what I think, and not what I hope others will agree with.

 

Oh, impressions are important to me of course, i'm not going to deny i am a social being.

However clearly you are above that, as i am sure you are above everything else in the world. Having said that I think perhaps you still missed the point, despite how special you are.

Perhaps you should change your mode of communication? or perhaps you are a pompous intellect? Or maybe i am wrong on both accounts but in the end so long as we can agree to dislike each other, i don't mind.
