    My girlfriend is making me watch it tonight and she says I'm going to cry.

    Hachi is a famous figure in Japan...which is saying something, considering he was a dog and not a person. But as much as the Japanese value solidarity and spirit, it makes sense. Every child knows the story of Hachiko...though it's not quite the same as the movie's version. There's even a figure of Hachi here in Japan that's very popular with locals as well as tourists.
