You can't destroy a system by destroying a building - and those who reside therin. The hearts and minds are that which make the difference
But by destroying the building and saving £6 - 7Bn repair bill, one is also destroying symbalism of it and that is just the beginning of the reform of our imperfect democracy, the remainder needs political will.
And who will end up paying for replacement symbol of office? - At a cost thart could double that of the the original estimate - from contractor buddies who will opt for the unneccessary onnate and - because of security risk add-ons. For me, keeping the symbol of old - as a reminder, is better than its desturction and replacement with an even worse one that depicts a Newer and more condescending council of corruption
We don't need a symbol of imperialism, merely a functioning building housing the parliament and offices. That is unlikely to cost £6 - 7 BN !!!
Disagree. It's a matter of identity. Westminster is highly regarded or identified by all the world. Besides, it will always be funded for upkeep costs anyway.
That's bullshit !!! - we the british taxpayers are expected to stump up the cost of repair and rennovation, and 'Westminster' is merely a building.
You do realise Westminster and Buckingham Palace bring in more to our economy through tourism than what it cost the tax payer.
Again, that's bulllshit !!! - we cough up more for Mrs Windsor and her brood than what we receive back in tourism. Buck house is just another symbol, and once Mrs Windsor snuffs it, would make an excellent Comprehensive school.
