Ja, Isinglass is used in the refining stage … and yuck, it leaves loads of blood in the end product. Quite a few beers, lagers, pilsners, etc use it … sometimes other animal products. It’s always best for the strict Veg. to check the V-Friendly lists. Same goes for other alcohols, especially red wine, as blood is often still used for colouring.

ive known about isinglass for a long time, but i still choose to drink guinness.

FALSE. there is no blood in isinglass. it's used to filter out the yeast before bottling. the isinglass isn't consumed because it's filtered out.

do you say things like this to turn people off to beer? it seems that is your only purpose in this thread. i know it would fit your agenda if there actually were blood in beer, but that's not the case.

i looked around and couldn't find any other animal products. could you give me some more information on animal products used to make beer?

There are loads of Vegan / Veggie forums and sites that you can read more on the subject, but that’s up to you.

But maybe I shouldn’t post anything relating to alcohol, it tends to end up in a showdown.

thanks. i usually dont check wiki cuz its not always reliable, i checked the beer oriented forums and websites i visit and found that most of that stuff hasn't been used in beer in many years.

really though, I've never been strict veg since I have fish every so often. I'm more about sustainability, but most of all I am about feeling good about what I eat and enjoying it. I guess I'll see if I taste blood and guts next time I drink a guinness.

 

My ex-boyfriend was a strict Vegan and I used to tell him about the beer thing and he pretended that it was all a lie. Silly.
