this is an interesting video about guerilla gardeners taking back public spaces. http://www.wikihow.com/Start-Guerilla-Gardening
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4828396.stm I remember reading about this a few years ago... Seemed like a few middle class hippies to me. But it seems to have spread further than that. I think it is like gaffiti. Done well it adds to the environment. Done badly it is an eye sore.
there's some awesome ones running around, it's pretty cool. i wouldn't mind going to war on some ugly corners around here...
well, okay, there is this one square patch that frankly i think has some sort of nuclear waste buried under it, because nothing will grow there.
I think they may like to fly, or possibly improve their sexual prowess in later life. New gardening skillls, would be low down on any childs agenda, I imagine.
could come in handy should the world come to a horrific end. they can grow their own food...and whatever else may bring in some bartering material.
there's some awesome crews working in LA, risking life and limb to beautify run down neighborhoods. the cops basically just drive by to make sure they don't get killed.
Some of those place look like high traffic for growing. Lol I live in Boulder we have garden plots all over in the city, some are nice and some of the folks from the big cites really just can’t grow. But they all enjoy it. My neighbors all have small gardens and try to get me to make one, but I grew up around growing and gardens and it is all work to me. I’m not interested in spending $30 and 50 hours of labor to grow $45 worth of food. I would be interested in a share of an acre or so but little plots here and there take to much work in this climate.
nice thread lady its good to see people are promoting this when i couldnt get a plot a few years ago i was thinking about guerrilla gardening but never materialised..... need to try get the motivation going again i guess. I think its something that would be fabuluous as a group project though. Circle eace:
Thank you, zihger! I'm so glad someone else feels the same way. Not dissing anyone who enjoys it though... btw, I'm all for beautifying vacant lots... power to guerrilla gardeners! :cheers2:
Vegetables fight hunger and tomatoes are easy. Plant seeds here, there, and everywhere. Alleyways are good spots.
I want to join in on guerilla gardening, but I know if I were to sow some seeds and someone were to mow the area, I would be so sad!
