boiling works fine for some thing especialy bulk substrates as you get away from pf cakes and do more complex work you'll find a pressure cooker to be an awsome addition. how did knocking a jar over allow contaminant air in?

I just assumed enough vermiculite moved around to expose some substrate. The jars were pretty full though...

I dont use a vermiculite layer in my spawn jars, I beat them against a sterilized phonebook to loosen the kernels up for a faster more even colonization and it seems to work fine.
