Thanks, I've just started reading on it, got the Audobon Society Book of Mushrooms. I just know with mycology in general you want to be very careful. I know some people who seem to be good at it, so was wondering if there was some secret trick like, "look under douglas firs".
    Thanks!

Hunting and eating wild mushroom is a dangerous business, You really have to know your stuff.
People die from mushroom poisoning or end up with liver transplants.

I would never hunt them on my own even though I used to help my mother gather sheep's head (Maitake) and some kind of small white mushroom, possibly button.
    My uncle would pick puffballs.

    Check this out:
    Mushroom poisoning

Sheep's head, usually found at the foot of a large oak tree.
