Just because you yourself don't, doesn't mean that other people don't do that. I made a generalisation, it wasn't supposed to be taken as an absolute... Some people do look down on certain forms of music, that is just a fact.
Yes, but not necessarily because they grew out of it I just wanted to nuancate your post a bit indeed.
Like I said, just because some people do use "grow out of it" as a derogatory term to refer to music they no longer like, doesn't mean that everyone does that. lol Nuancate? What does that mean?
Ah... I had a feeling it meant something like that. Oh well, you learn something new every day! lol xD
Which subgenres? Or metal as a whole? I get the feeling that particular word is not the most common expression for it in english (I saw it being used in english though and it is the most common in my language and I think french too)
Well, no, it's a common expression in English... you're right. lol Before I asked you what it meant, I tried to find the meaning of the word online, and couldn't find any meaning for the word "nuancate". Every time I tried to search for that word, it kept giving me results with the word "nuance" in it instead! hehe
Not all death metal is creepy, though I admit when I was initially getting into the genre, I did find pretty much all of it creepy. As for "Charles Manson worship", some death metal bands actually write socially conscious lyrics, or intelligent, philosophical lyrics. But yep, bands like Autopsy still manage to creep me out today... lol @Asmodean: Grind can be even creepier than death metal, like early Carcass, or Cattle Decapitation. Though funnily enough, both of those bands are vegetarians, as is Cannibal Corpse's drummer, Paul Mazurkiewicz! hehe
Sorry but metal is for losers. I had phase where I liked it and I never meet anyone who was not mentally ill/ callous who also liked it. The sort of people who considered Charles Manson a hero, the kind of people who thought it was funny to piss on a church (true stories) There is a whole "fuck you, I'm smarter then you" attitude, and the only people I know who are not in serious trouble now are the ones who also grew out of metal. To me it's music that creates hateful energy it's not supposed to be happy. It's point it to be shocking and aggressive, the more so the more "metal" the band is right?
Well, fuck you, I AM smarter than you. I am not in any sort of trouble, and i am a non-grower-outer! I feel that I project the attitude of AGRESSIVELY FUCKING HAPPY!!! So, try to focus, anakin.
^ TL;DR^ "I used to listen to Korn but they upset me so now I call people losers while trying to belittle a music genre I don't like to listen to."
Sounds like unfocusedanakin was just into it in his adolescent years. Nothing wrong with that of course but that is most likely also the reason his mates found joy in pissing against buildings and looking for shocking rolemodels etc. Are you sure that juvenile attitude is limited to metalheads?
Well, if you take the "chav" (and "neds" for Scotland) phenomenon in my country, who are known as an uneducated, delinquent, violent, and yobbish underclass in British society, the overwhelming majority of those in that category do not listen to metal. They are known to primarily listen to the genres of gangsta rap, techno music, pop, reggae, or a combination of all of these. There have also been high profile cases of gangs of people in this category either severely assaulting, or murdering those considered to be metalheads, or goths. I've never heard of a gang of metalheads beating any chavs/neds to death however. Metal has been demonised a lot in the media when it comes to being a bad influence on the young. In Britain though, a metalhead is far more likely to the victim of violent crime, than to be the purpetrator of it. unfocusedanakin is simply making a lazy, and rather inaccuarate assumption of metalheads as a whole. Of course, some metalheads do come under the category of people he describes, but a lot of them do not, at all. Including myself. I'm a very timid person, vociferously anti-violence, and have a lot of love in my heart, despite the dark side of the world I regularly witness. And I love metal very much. Heck, you'll find me worshipping at the altar of Wallace & Gromit, rather than Charles Manson! lol I'd advise Anakin to become more focussed and look to the Force, and stop making such ill informed, sweeping generalistions of people.
Wallace & Gromit may look like the epitome of english coziness but I'm pretty sure the majority of the metalheads I know dig them more than they dig Charles Manson But yes, even Charles Manson has some fans. So fucking what? It's really more dependant on their age than their music preferences.
Yep well, I remember the big hoo-ha years ago due to Axl wearing a Charles Manson t-shirt. I was in my teens at the time, and even back then, I thought he was an idiot to be doing that. lol At that time, I actually bought a Wallace & Gromit t-shirt which I still own today! Hahaha! Okay, you got me there, I cannot deny that!
