Oh, I couldn't agree more. How dare parents care what their perfect little angels do? It shouldn't matter that they can be held legally and financially responsible for what the teen does, right? After all, it's their job to pay and take the heat and if it costs them their savings then it's their tough luck! I mean if they weren't interested in being disrespected, cheated, screwed over stolen from and jailed for an offense committed by their all knowing, all wise teenage genius they shouldn't have had children, right? How DARE they even THINK they can punish with restrictions when it's their job to just let teens do whatever the fuck they want without regard to any consequences, right?

Sometimes grounding is so uncalled for when a good sound beating seems so much more appropriate.

Oh bullshit you kids are so fucking spoiled these days you have no fucking idea. Hey, what about the old days when you fucked up and your dad took you in the back woods and beat you with a twine? Would you rather like that? Is that better for you? IS IT?

This here is a boy: proof america went from raising warriors to raising pussies.
I'm a chick therefore I can say that.

    Way back. Before my time.

My parents spanked me. My mom slapped me once to asking her a question to loud while she was vaccuming, lol but it's all good I laugh about it now. I was grounded for an entire year from talking about sex with my boyfriend when I was sixteen.. In a shed. I lived in the shed. I wasn't allowed to watch television till I was fifteen. And the only thing I was allowed to watch was TBN and Discovery Channel.

Grounding is not bad. Hell, I'd ground my kids. I probably will. Everything your parents do to you is because they love you and they care about you, and they try to take responsibility and parenting is HARD, it's not an easy thing but believe me, there are still kids who get beat, or worse.

So yeah. Quit complaining. (I know my parents did it wrong.)

Sorry that happened to you, FB. I just find liberal parenting better. I'm happy with the way I am and I was raised in a very open enviroment.

be depressing as fuck so it creates a bad atmosphere in the house

talk only in single, monotone words
tell her constantly how stupid she was to have you, and how you wish shed aborted you

do not participate in any family activities

eat meals seperate from rest of family
    show no interest in anything
dont sleep so you look like total shit (also makes you hallucinate after about 4 days)

Actually, the single monotone words thing is actually pretty effective.

His Eden: parents go to jail because of their kids ditching school? I find fines hard to believe, let alone jailtime. if this is really true, the system over there is even more fucked up than I could've imagined.

FinnishButterfly: if all these things really happened to you, that explains a lot. getting slapped for asking a question too loudly? your mother is clearly an idiot. and you got grounded for a year for talking about sex at sixteen. all this must have done you a world of good; you said in another thread you ended up working in porn. yes, you're a stellar argument in favor of overly strict parenting.

grounding is a traditional punishment which may or may not still be useful. at the end of the day, there are two things that motivate people: avoidance of pain, and the prospect of pleasure. strict parenting is fine, but physical punishment should only be resorted to in extreme cases. there are many ways to guide your children into becoming responsible and well-adjusted adults, but they are going to make mistakes and they are going to test their boundaries. fact of life. you can't control them, you can only teach them and bring them up right, and hope for the best.

Not sure where you live, but truancy laws are not just enforced in the United States, but also areas of the UK, and Australia as well. If you are interested you can google truancy laws. The ones I am most familiar with are California (http://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/ai/tr/ ) and yes they do fine and jail parents. Many parents can't pay the $250+ fine, and end up getting in even more legal trouble....all because their precious little angel ditched school. *sarcasm*

Some parents not only drive their kid to school, but will sit in their classrooms with them. My husband currently has a mom in his class with her daughter because she was tired of getting fined for her daughters truancies. How much is a parent supposed to do if the kid refuses to attend school? Fine, get the kid to attend and s/he makes it a living hell for the teacher and other students. Great idea *sarcasm*

When I was in high school they did not fine parents, they took the kid to a juvenile detention facility for ditching more than 3 times in a semester. The kid spent a few hours to overnight depending on the offenses. For most kids the scare tactic worked, and the truancies went WAY down. Apparently that method was too harsh and restricitive *rolling eyes* so the powers that be cancelled it.

build something, get in more trouble for the sawdust, and then get some chisels and put some artful filigree into it (you'll need the time, and some discipline to make a really beautiful finish)
