Grils Don't Even Speak To Me At University

I am studying in culinary. 70 percent of the things I do are with grills in this department but them grills dont even speak to me. At university I can only speak to flat stovetops. When I go near a grill and try to cook, it acts bad to me. Why should grills not speak to me. What makes me too bad at cooking? Its my 3rd year at university and I cant get one to speak to me of hot tasty. I am depressed. It's like I am not worth their cooking for me.
