Very witty, 6-eyed. The unfortunate thing is most of those kids don't have much of a future to look forward to.
Comparing significant issues in the first world (which ultimate consequences are for our great grandchildren), that we can actually tackle if we commit to it, with the horrendous conditions of kids in the 3rd world only work rhetorically.

And hey, the issue Thunberg and others are focussing on is of course not only a 1st world issue, its global. And guess which kids will feel the consequences first and most seriously: the poor ones in 3rd world countries in Africa and South Asia you use so easily and witty in your humorous comparison. Very witty indeed.

    Exactly
Everyone here will just bitch about how first world teenagers are lazy and never do anything meaningful, in another thread at some point. I'm taking bets on it.

Seems to me Greta is speaking on behalf of all children, as well as all people.

No matey, you need to qualify that last statement, it should read: "as well as all intelligent people".

Well it’s been done before....JFK and RFK. Taking a little liberty with a quote-The wealthy will always be with us. The trick is to make sure they have a social conscience and don’t get to pig down most of the pie.

Money, debt, deficits - these are all socially constructed.

The environment and climate are not.

I'd rather my children and grandchildren grow up 'in debt' than not have a habitable world to grow up in.

At least Thunberg believes in something and is willing to fight for it. Better than the armchair pundits here, spending their days finding conspiracy in everything and coming up with more and more reasons why they shouldn't bother putting effort in to making the world around them a better place to live in, or at least trying to better their own lives. (Yes, I'm talking to you, PR).

"Seems like a happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future " ... Donald Trump

Thunberg had a bit of fun with Trump’s tweet.

She updated her Twitter bio to read, “A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future.”

They are referring to owning goods. Same as the 60's the issue with the young people is they don't want enough stuff! I hear it all the time since I am a Millennial. We don't support this industry or that. We are lazy and killing the economy. No, it's that that industry needs to go extinct or change.

They would love her if she for example owned her own company and had 3 houses with a SUV out front. That is the "work ethic" they seek. She must play the capitalist game and win.

I have heard she is on the spectrum so I am very proud of her in many ways. My people and my generation have a voice.

Kind of like the time when everyone here bitched about this first world teenager?
Were they lazy, and never done anything meaningful with their life either?

  13. People around here seriously need to stop lecturing PR on how he lives his life.

Also, it's pretty fucking dumb to say Greta should sit down and shut up because she's not a slave in a coal mine. She's no more privileged than your average teenager living in the West. I don't know where all of this bullshit about her being a spoiled brat is coming from. It's such a way to pigeonhole her. She's an opinionated girl, so therefore she's a spoiled brat.

The only reason the climate alarmists adopted an autistic child like Greta as their mascot is because they could attack anyone who criticizes climate change as a bully. That, and because Al Gore and Polar Bears became dated and useless to them.

When minors offer themselves to become political figures, criticism is fair game.

She's privileged because she's been made a celebrity for years to come. When she gets older, tons of opportunities will open up for her, and she'll likely get a stellar book deal that will set her up for life.

She'll be making more money than any western teenager will ever dream of seeing. Her future hasn't been taken. Gimme a break.

  16. Autistic? Have you even seen the girl speak? She's a gifted orator. She's obviously really good at getting people's attention and appealing to their better nature.

  17. Greta obviously believes that if we don't stop putting so much pollution into the environment, that she won't have a future

What gets me is that, obviously pollution is a problem. Why not start taking measures to curb it now? We have to someday. And the sooner the better, right?

Solid criticism is probably not shunned. But when I notice discussion about her speech (and other protest actions) I notice more attempts to discredit her (or her parents) than criticism on climate change or her actions and speech.

People with aspergers usualy have a good vocabulary. It's not that we can't argue a topic we are just are shy and akwerd. I could easily get a A in a written debate in school. I could not stand in front of the class as easily.

Several orders of magnitude better than DT. Also even more orders of magnitude better than DT at self control as evidenced by the chance encounter at the UN.
