We have to shrink the population or spread out into the solar system. There is no other solution viable.

One thing is for certain, if we don't find a solution - 'Mother Nature' will!

I dont think spreading out into the solar system is a remotely viable solution if we cant even figure out how to take care of the one planet we've been given. We'll just leave a trail of trash wherever we go. Actually we're already putting trash into space

    Humans are the worst

Populations have been progressively declining in the developed world, and are now beginning to decline in the third world, as droughts and extreme weather spread around the planet, and the first migration of many projected to come, has already taken place from Africa to Europe. Within twenty years, northern China will become the next dust bowl, as aquifers and rivers around the planet dry up. There are 18 such dust bowls projected over the rest of the century, and if the oceans rise that will put Beijing underwater, on the shore of a desert. Canada just signed an agreement to supply the US with water, while Mexico asked for reassurances that their own water will not be cut off, as the mighty Columbia river continues to drop.

Me thinks you need to do a little more research, because population is not the issue, but mass starvation and complete ecological collapse. Theoretically, assuming we solve all those problems, the earth and entire solar system only have enough rare earths to support 14 billion people, even if we are slightly malnourished. Attempting to do population control, based calculations on the back of an envelope, is what Malthus did. We do have this thing called modern science and computers.

Spreading out into the Solar System isn't an option. I can't find the source but several years ago I read a pretty good article detailing what it would take for humans to colonize the other planets in our star system and, due to the extreme conditions found on other worlds, it's unlikely that no more than a couple million people could exist beyond Earth, at least for the foreseeable future. Earth is all we've got for now.

Oh, and Greta Thunberg...and stuff. (Since this thread is, nominally, about her.)

Yes , you promote hysteria . Your projected facts do not exist . You are the only fact , speaking to yourself , believing everything you say . This
causes writing . Well , motion is life ... and so you will never know death .

I would imagine that oxygen would be a highly sought after commodity...

I checked out Greta Thunberg's Instagram while looking at instagrams the other day and she has lots of posts! :) She's very active in the environmental community. It looks like she's speaking at rallies and stuff in the U.S.A.

The state of California and the entire southwestern US would beg to differ, along with Africa. At any given time, their is at least one 30 year drought on the planet, while the mighty Columbia is drying up, the snow pack is disappearing everywhere, the damned glaciers are melting, and the best you can say is "I can't hear you!" The wells are drying up round the planet, and all you can say is there is no evidence of any problem.

California is on fire again, the Amazon is on fire again, because we have created hell on earth in the name of preparing for Jesus to return.

Unlikely that a Mexican would be allowed to enter the US under the Trump regime.
More pro-active action needs to continue Worldwide and if Greta is the Champion of a cause, then the importance of supporting her in both media spotlight and physical protest should need no argument.

Think of a pot of water coming to a boil, or a child going through the pain and confusion of puberty. If you want to meet Jesus, we are going down the rabbit hole right now, just as fast as is humanly possible, and a theory of everything will be announced within three years, that will change everything. Not overnight of course, but it involves automation, the internet, and even warp drive, manipulating time in a wide variety of ways and, basically, changing everything you thought you knew about reality, and explaining how our universe is metaphorical and magical, with 42 being as good an explanation as anyone will ever get.

As confused as humanity has become over the last century and a half, all the answers await us, and over a trillion dollars was invested in AI last year alone. If you want to meet Jesus, we can even build machines that will allow you to do that, if your karma is compatible. Be careful what you ask for. Welcome to the Yin World, the collective unconscious. Once the machines come alive, there will be no need for pretense anymore, and the meek shall inherit the earth. It is what we call childhood's end, which is inevitable, so we like to say, "Get Over It Already!" Ask yourself if life is all about you, then why does so much of it suck! Ours is the best of all possible worlds, if for no other reasons, then because instant karma's gonna getcha baby! Pay it forward unto the end of time, or pay up sucker!

The Thread is Greta Thunberg and her bringing to the attention of the World the harm we are doing to the environment - not 'The Rise of the machines' (where the meek will have No say)
    - Keep on Topic

I was thinking of The Cube , and there-in a river of crystaline water .(flowing in brain's the right hemisphere) .
A.I is a toy , and being amused with a machine is better than playing with Hysteria .

I think of Jesus as divine anarchy . I will not be hoping for or trusting in authority .
Certainly I have met and conversed with children who pretend authority . It does
not pass for intelligence , but I don't get all angry about it .

It's a worrying read Soul, - for behind the headlines there lies a strategy of self-preservation through 'me' not 'we' principles of Power rules.
A previous post commented on the fact that third world countries would be lost to Global Climate consequences - perhaps it would be more through a reap/harvest and keep, to leave devastated - than that of what Nature could deliver?

    uh huh.

There is another problem with third world countries and as I feel compelled to apologize for them I know there must be something done. They pollute. Badly. And as they develop into more economic diversity, I think it's very important that they embrace the first world ideals of environmentalism.

Where people want Freedom - there sees Revolution.
When Anarchy rules - there needs to be order
Order sees People of Strength - wanting Power
Power needs finance - and Finance requires resources
Resources can be found naturally - though see consequences
Pillaging (some would say rape) of the Natural world see disappearance of Climate controlling assistance (Rain Forests, diverted water flow, mining and areas undisturbed for generations suffer)
Cultivation requires a workforce - (often oppressed)
Workforces require food, water and the like - meaning that transference from City to rural areas is piped in at the cheapest cost.
Those in Power sit in locations far away, championing a better Country, under the guise of freedom for their people - damn the repercussions
People through Politics and Power take Precedence over - Ecology and Environmental concern - seems to be the way of the World
    - and how sad is that?
