I still suspect she's just being used by those who want an easy way to get their message out. In a few years she will no longer be some cute naive kid. She'll be a bitter, disappointed adult...no use for her handlers anymore so she will simply be tossed to the side. Politicians, either left or right, are fucking assholes.

 

So fast foreword about 50 years.....in fact the overwhelming majority of climate scientists (who reap no financial rewards from the conclusions of their science results in either direction) are correct, the earth has large uninhabitable ares from a warming climate. So how are a few abysmal ignorant self serving creeps going to compensate hundreds of millions of victims? There isn’t enough gold or money to even make a start. In such a scenario money would have no meaning.

 

I doubt that they give it a second thought. They'll blame it on somebody else. Maybe not Obama and Hillary fifty years from now, but some progressive who should have warned them more effectively--or they'll blame science. How could the energy companies, bertarians, and the ruling class have known, since scientists couldn't reach unanimous consensus on the matter?

Global warming has caused more violent storms everywhere, including mid-ocean, and even cities like NY and London are spending hundreds of billions of dollars attempting to stop the damage, while ya'll argue that you are not convinced, convincing me you need to open your mind considerably, and stop taking your own opinions quite so seriously.

Police have called in reinforcements from across Britain after failing to smash Extinction Rebellion's illegal eco-village in central London where activists were free to rave at a giant Orbital gig in Trafalgar Square last night.

The eco-zealots have even managed to expand their territory by almost a third overnight having already shut down two miles of roads around Parliament in the past 48 hours.

Policing Minister Kit Malthouse today revealed officers from forces outside London will be called in to increase arrests as those already in the capital were overwhelmed.

Today the activists began the day with a giant yoga session before again blockading Government departments starting with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs [DEFRA] - there will also be a mass 'nurse-in' by breastfeeding and bottlefeeding mothers next to Westminster Abbey.


Extinction Rebellion's growing territory came despite Scotland Yard's warning that they would arrest anyone not in the pedestrianised area of Trafalgar Square by the end of yesterday.

But last night, in the streets under Nelson's Column, thousands of XR supporters partied into the night at a gig headlined by dance band Orbital.

And the hundreds of tents pitched all along Whitehall, past Downing Street and around Parliament Square - and a central camp in St James Park - still remain this morning where minister Michael Gove spoke to protesters.

During normal working hours, only expressions of peace and contentment that do not impede the status quo are permissible, even if the entire world is about to be destroyed. Leave all the thinking and planning and execution of decisions to your betters, and everything will work out just fine, fine, fine. Know your place in society, chant and be happy, happy, joy, joy, or else.

How patronizing to the people of extinction rebellion to imagine Greta is the reason they're stirred up. I see people on the news my parents ages, who themselves were talking about this stuff 30 years ago.

To everyone who thinks she is being "used" because it's necessary to manipulate people with cute innocent children, even if that's true, it's only because people haven't been listening to the qualified adults who have been researching and warning us of their findings. It doesn't negate the message that the methods being used to spread it are getting more manipulative and disruptive.

 

It's indeed not good that politicians promised to reach certain goals in the past and have now to be reminded this way that we need solid constructive changes, not just a lot of nice talking and continuing to make use of and support an eventually fatal way of exploiting earthly resources. But you seem to blame these protesters (not just this 'abused girl', hence you're not primarily at odds with her being used by certain adults to spread a political message, but more so the message itself), not the people in charge who claimed to have set a certain goal.

 

My country is the wealthiest and most powerful in the world, the one country in the best position to do anything, and Donald Duck is president, about to be impeached, and 40% of the population is furious that even their own party leaders want to kill the man. I'd settle for at least a hint of sanity at this point.
