Greta Thunberg dismisses PM’s climate change speeches as ‘blah, blah, blah’

Greta Thunberg has mocked the Prime Minister by quoting parts of his speeches on climate change and adding “blah, blah, blah”.

Giving a speech at the Youth4Climate summit in Milan, Italy, the Swedish activist said the words of “our so-called leaders” had led to “no action”.

The 18-year-old used soundbites from speeches by Boris Johnson such as “build back better” before dismissing them as “blah, blah, blah”, prompting applause from the audience.
During her speech on Tuesday, she said: “This is not about some expensive, politically correct, green act of bunny hugging.

“Build back better, blah blah blah. Green economy, blah blah blah. Net zero by 2050, blah blah blah. Climate neutral, blah blah blah.

“This is all we hear from our so-called leaders.

“Words that sound great, but so far have led to no action.”

Ms Thunberg’s speech comes ahead of the Cop26 international climate conference in Glasgow which will see world leaders pursuing a target of limiting any further temperature increase to 1.5C.

The summit will involve calls to accelerate the phasing out of coal, curtail deforestation, speed up the switch to electric vehicles and encourage investment in renewables.

UK ministers are keen for the Cop26 conference to involve face-to-face meetings and speeches after the event was delayed by a year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking about the words of world leaders on climate change, Ms Thunberg said: “Our hopes and dreams drown in their empty words and promises.

“Of course, we need constructive dialogue – but they’ve now had 30 years of blah, blah, blah, and where has that led us.

“Over 50% of all our CO2 emissions have occurred since 1990 and a third since 2005.

“All this while the media is reporting what the leaders say they are going to do, instead of what they are actually doing.

“Don’t get me wrong, we can still do this. Change is not only possible but urgently necessary.”

Greta could easily become the next Mother Jones, and I'm hoping my work in automating instant karma inspires a new generation to mow right over the politicians as irrelevant.

Maybe she should then focus on actually doing something about the climate instead of just traveling around the world emmiting more CO2 and giving speaches to people with banners painted on cardbords and bedsheets nailed to wooden sticks, hint none of those signs are any good for the enviroment, maybe she should stop reading the speaches her parrents wrote for her printed out on a sheets of paper.
in other words maybe she should start with the girl in the mirror, and make her stop with the blah blah blah and make her take actual real action and do something productive and inovative or at bare minimum bring some suggestions to the table on what to do.

I do agree with her that there is too much blah blah blah and not enough action, and I also see a total lack of understanding of the issue at hand.

The world needs a lot more activism like Greta’s and a lot fewer excuses. This is not time for tweaking the status quo.

Greta has amassed a considerable following, and is a symbol for young people to rally behind by the millions. Perhaps you could tell Mahatma Gandhi's mother how to suck eggs? She's Norwegian, a country widely respected for its environmental and social leadership. What country are you from?

Actually she is Swedish, but that doesn't make a difference really, they are neighbour countries btw, I'm from Denmark also a beighbour country to sweden, and a country that is a world leader in sustainable energy, and has the highest CO2 emission reduction goals (a reduction of 70% by year 2030) politicians though are dragging their feet, just like everywhere else it seems.

The world needs more action and less talk about the climate changes, that is all I'm saying. Activisme alone doen't change anything if the activists aren't taking any action other than talking and protesting.

CO2 is stored naturally in plants and trees, it's essential for them to grow, so maybe we should stop cutting down trees and using as much paper as we do and allow those trees to actually do what they do best.

Yes, obviously it would have a greater impact if certain governments did that, but what ever each individual can do is better than nothing

Greta is among the first to gain traction rallying the troops. Her appeal is to a younger audience that typically is not terribly politically active, and she uses things like Twitter as a platform for getting the message out, which would personally drive me nuts, but its the right tool for the right audience. These days, you could have porn stars do a strip tease on TV to, "Help Save The Planet!" and they'd have my support. The roaring silence is deafening, and even the hallowed halls appear totally at a loss as to how to address the situation.

My work involves how to do an end run around all of them, and kick start the next scientific revolution, but right now is the time for getting the word out.

Yeah definatley she should get credited for getting a younger audience politically involved, and for me twitter would make me go nuts as well, but hey I'm a semi old fart who isn't a big fan of (anti)social media.

LOL just imagining the porn star strip tease tv show, I think it would be an awesome idea :).

Someone should sell the idea to an Italian director. The most popular show for a long time there was an amatuer strip tease. I'd watch that, and I don't watch TV. :)

In the late 60s I managed a Forest Service program that put 500,000 trees in the ground on one ranger district in Wisconsin…..I’d like to think that many of those trees are still alive still storing CO2. On the flip side, the average size of a new single family home in the US has almost doubled since then, with all the added environmental impact.
