A few of you made good points, but for the most part, this thread is one stereotype after another. Not all goths are: deppressed, cutters, suicidal, trying to get attention, or annoying. And lots of people are not goths, yet they fit with the descriptions that many of you are accusing goths of being. For the most part, the people who post on this forum consider themselves hippies. Go check out the Mental Health forum. Every group of people has problems. You can't just say things such as, "Goths are deppressed," and expect it to hold true. Some goths are and some goths aren't. Just like some hippies are, and some hippies aren't. People are people and they have good and bad characteristics-- not because they are in a certain group, but because they are human. I don't care if someone is black, white, green, purple, hippie, goth, emo, liberal, conservative, wiccan, christian, or cyborg. All that should matter is that they try to do their best.
Good point, feralfey. However I don't like cyborgs very much. Haha, how did you come to this conclusion? I don't have much in common with the gothic and emo style neither, like wearing mostly black and their music preferences, but some of you guys are really stuck in the stereotypes. Pretty sad.
What is with all of the hate towards specific groups of people? First of all, I do not like emo music either. In fact, I cannot stand it. That does not mean, however, that I would hate people for listening to it. I see way too much generalizing here. Yes, there are stereotypical 13-year-old "emos" who want to fit in and feel that, for whatever pitiful reason, cutting themselves is the way to do so, but there are also other people who one would never imagine to be in that group who cut themselves and commit suicide. It really saddens me to have this new trend/stereotype/whatever you want to call it going on because there are people who actually do have depression out there, and they are automatically considered an "emo" for that reason. Depression has existed before this new trend set in, and it will continue to exist after it passes. I do understand the frustration with people who fake having depression in order to get attention, but not everyone is pretending. There are people out there who wear the brightest clothing and smile constantly who go home crying and feeling miserable. I am not trying to start a huge debate, but I wish people would cut out the "you're emo" statement every time a person is going through a rough time. Most of you on this forum claim to be loving and compassionate people, but some of your comments about those who are different than you show otherwise.
You shouldnt hate these people. Often they are very nice and in fact, very few of them cut themselves or cry themselves to sleep at night. Often, emos and goths are just looking to fit in with other kids who they can associate themselves with. Many of you are basing your opinions on stereotypes. Sure, some of them are moronic losers, but most of them are normal kids just looking for friends. How many of you actually know goths? You claim that they "dont appreciate life", but like I said, this is just a stupid stereotype.
