got me a pitbull today!

My cousin's pitbull, Chief Kusherson, is friendly to everyone he comes in contact with, and he has more personality than any dog I've ever known. He doesn't even bark at people. lol He just runs up and rubs against people, as if to give them a hug. haha

 

i have mixed feelings on what you guys are saying about pitts. i own a mixed breed pit (great daneXpitt) and am a pitt advocate. i am a vet tech and a shelter volunteer. i have seen a LOT of really good pitts and a LOT of really bad pitts. unfortunately, i have seen 3x as many bad pitts as good ones.

but the problem is moreso with the handler/owner than the animal.

pitts are very emotional and can get confused easily. there's nothing wrong with the breed. they can be sweet and loving as well as aggressive depending on many factors including genetics, inbreeding, environment, diet, etc. they are the victims as well as the humans who are attacked. hating on the breed doesn't do anyone any good, especially the dogs. it just feeds the negative stereotypes.


OP, your pitt is beautiful and im sure it will be well taken care of and be loved. you seem like you know a good bit about the breed.

The biggest problem with pits is that they don't know their own strength. Most of the pits that end up hurting people don't do it purposely. They may intend to bite someone, in a playful manner, and end up biting too hard, because they don't realize how powerful their jaws are, in comparison to human flesh.

And I still stand strong about getting rid of all pitbulls. No one should have the fear at the back of their minds "Is this dog going to go off one day on me or any person?" no matter how nice they seem to be

Stacy, there is nothing physiologically different about their jaws than other breeds. the difference is their determination and tenacity. they are very determined dogs.
