What are the best things about getting older. I think it's a blessing and a curse. But seeing as we all have to do it, I think it beneficial to focus on the positive aspects. You care less about what other people think of you. About keeping up with fads and trends. Hopefully you have learned better to deal with life's disappointments. I find a good dose of Schopenhauerian infinite resignation helps. You have hopefully mastered those life skills essential to getting on the with life, and learned better to adapt to change. What do you think?
people stop expecting you to keep up with the latest cultural evolution. they even allow for the possibility that you might have some idea what you're talking about. not that you might not have when you were younger, or even more then now. the best thing is still senior discounts, mostly restaurants and on the bus.
You can go to town early on a weekday to avoid the crowds and traffic. You meet people you know at the doctor's office. You have another conversation topic besides the weather, your aches and pains. Senior discounts.
More disposable income, and free time. My life used to be a sprint; these days I feel like I'm having a nice jog...
I notice I can do what I want now without people saying anything. 10 years ago of I wanted to set up a marquee in a public place I'd have been chased off like a little shit. Now I'm 30 no one says anything. People can't tell you what to do anymore either. People won't tell you what to do. People look at you as an adult, not a child.
Speaking on a very personal level, my mental health improved immensely when I hit 40. It is well known that my condition improves when that magic number is reached.
I no longer care if the chef spits on my steak when in France. It's good food and will only make me stronger.
People, politicians, so-called progress and new technological developments fail to impress. I feel that I did the right thing, and that I ultimately got what I wanted out of life.
Would you not rather escape the cycle of rebirth entirely, maybe to reincarnate on a higher plane or attain final release from mortal concerns, or do you want to come back to Earth, not knowing what the conditions will be like here on Earth in the future?
Also, if you were reincarnated on Earth, where would you hide your stash and know how to retrieve it? Like property and possessions, banks accounts etc? Because I'd want to know.
real mysteries are NOT the property of ANY one religion, and DON'T try to tell you what to pretend. nor owe a damd thing to what anyone tells anyone else to think they know about it. nor do they even require personification. THAT is entirely optional and unknown. also there are billions of solar systems, many with at least one earth-like world. why would the odds favor being born on the same one twice in a row? just because a book was written a long time ago, doesn't mean it was written by anyone who had the slightest idea what they were talking about. could be lots of gods, or one or none, but whatever there is, still owes nothing to what anyone tells anyone else to pretend.
I don't know. I don't really want to come back here. But if I did I would be someone else anyway so it wouldn't matter. I wouldn't say reincarnation is something I necessarily believe in. It's just something I've entertained because I've looked at all religion. I like to consider death in the light of Shakespeare's quote from Hamlet; "An undiscovered country whose bourne no traveller returns..." Nevertheless I see death as a great opportunity, as something in itself and something that puts this mortal life into inescapable perspective.
