Feel Free To Enlighten Us Bilby, Just What Is "Lardy Cake", And Whats An Aussie Doing On The UK Forum Anyway....??? Cheers Glen.
'However, lard has a significantly lower proportion of saturated fats than butter, a common cake ingredient.' - mmm, did not know that.
Oh wow ... I used to LOVE my mother's lardycake. Unfortunately, as I now know I'm gluten intolerant, I guess I'm going to have to pass on this one ...
Actually saturated fat is not unhealthy, it is trans fat found in margarine and hardened vegetable oil that is unhealthy.
I thought it was: Lard>Butter>Margarine>Hardened vegetable oil Trans>Saturated>Un-Staurated No wonder my cholesterol level is high...
Imagine a lardy cake made with margarine instead of lard.A quick way to sexual dysfunction and a heart attack.
Nope, he is right. Saturated fat is not unhealthy. The only unhealthy fat is trans fat. Your cholesterol is high probably because of poor diet and/or too much sugar. Margarine is NOT healthier than butter (a whole food), since margarine is loaded with nasty oxidized trans fats and butter is not.
Never heard of lardy cakes...bwaa haa haa what a name! says it all I guess...sounds good to me, though I prefer butter for cake. Bear lard is the best for pie crust, and frying doughnuts. :2thumbsup:
