    Edward G. Robinson was known for making something even with lousy dialogue.

    It also takes a whole team to make an actor look good. I don't just mean makeup or clothes. Lighting, dialogue, directing can all make a difference.
    Fortunately, most bad acting doesn't make it very far. It's usually something else that dooms a movie.
    Lots of 50s sci-fi/horror movies have terrible acting, but they weren't aiming at critics, but couples in movie theaters and drive-ins.

    I thought Richard Dreyfuss over- acted throughout Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
