I dunno about you guys but I feel that we are caught in a time warp. The newspaper says it is 2019 but man it feels like the 70's. Especially with Roe v Wade and the Equal Rights Amendment being targeted by a very Nixon style president. The media is the enemy only if they don't support the current administration. The only good thing is that more and more states are legalizing both medical and recreational weed. To quote Jackson Browne 'We have heard it before/A government lies to the people/and a country is drifting to war.". If they can keep us baked then we will not be able to complain about legislation being passed that only benefits them and basically screws everyone else. And not in a fun way either.
Decades never really go away. Time overlaps. We try to do our own thing, but ancient history still permeates everything. Nothing ever really changes.
Stoned people are notorious for complaining about the government. Some are pretty good too OP's argument seems invalid
there are always similarities and there are always differences. in the 60s, which i'm pretty sure he meant instead of the 70s, the media was on the side of establishment status quo, and it was the growing popularity of counterculture calling it fake. today the media, its dialog, is asking the questions, and being called fake by top members of government defying the constitution, who are nobody's establishment, though their obvious puppet strings from big oil and coal are obvious. its sort of some things are the same, and some things are just completely inverted. extremes that were unthinkable then, are on the table now, things that were issues then, are being attacked from opposite sides. so its not exactly a rerun, buuuut, hay a lot of the battles that were fought in the 60s and won in the 70s are having to be refought, but that is partially because people get tired and bored of having anything good, so the 80s and raygun came alone and started throwing the 70s out with the bath water. then clinton tried to put a bandaid on the hemoridge and then the shrub, obama tried to do the right thing but make too many compromises with an ideology that refuses to reciproctate them back, and maybe should have known better then to do so, the one churchill warned against was like that. the sides aren't even the same sides, but some of the issues are being recycled, though maybe as something of a distraction. peace and civil rights were everything then, and environment was not unknown, but it wasn't a pressing issue nor center stage, today those old issues are being recycled to hide how very urgent environmental issues have since become.
in the previous itteration of 50 years ago, in was governement, establishmenat and big media that were in bed with each other, accusing the counter culture which was on the left, of coluding with russia, which was at that time soviet. this time around, it is the questioner's side, that media being accused of fake, in is of at least the posture of being on the side of, and it is elements of government, cancerous to government from the inside of it, which have blatantly in front of everyone been muddied and muddled by the backing of organized crime based in russia, with the assistence of agencies of the russian government. are these shifts not entirely obvious. the sides are different sides, the alignments are different allignments. the resurection of old issues, is often being used as smoke screens to hide the real issues of today, human rights attrocities, not in segrigated lunch counters but at the border, and again environment, because population too large to get away with what it could when smaller, when environment could still absorb the worst we could do because we were so much fewer, and hadn't yet been doing it as long.
