I recently visited a Hindu temple and I was really drawn to one particular deity. I was told it was the god of courage. I'm pretty sure the name started with an A. I googled Hindu god of courage but can't find anything. The goddess, Durga comes up. I also know that the vehicle of the god I'm looking for is the eagle. Can anyone help me out with this?
A bright image keeps popping into my head but it's sort of hard to describe.. I think the right hand palm was facing forward and there was actually something covering the eyes... and some sort of tassels near the chest area...large lips...
hmmm, I'm looking all of these up and don't think it was any of them.. guess I will have to go back to the temple, which I was planning on doing thanks for the replies
now I just read that another name for Vishnu is Narayana..and I think that's who I'm looking for.. I'm not sure why his eyes had a shield over them though
But I am confused now. I don't know, is he the god of courage ? In any case, this is the song I like about him- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6Mr7J-Zxow"]Shri Venkateshwara Suprabhatam - YouTube It says good morning, wakes him up and calls to start his days work.
The deity associated with courage may be Shiva. This is because he is the one associated with Tapas, or equanimity of mind in all situations or circumstances. The half moon he wears is symbolic of tapas as well. Also note that he is wedded to the deity Parvati, who is associated with victory in war.
